Linking the stage and social commitment Feb. 24 forum topic

Dr. Jo Beth Gonzalez, a drama teacher at Bowling Green High School and president of the American Alliance for Theatre and Education, will address “Inspiring Commitment to Social Issues through Theatre Education” on Feb. 24 at Bluffton University.

Free and open to the public, her Bluffton forum presentation will begin at 11 a.m. in Founders Hall.

Feb. 22 Masterworks concert also includes competition

Music by Haydn and Handel, along with high school seniors vying for music scholarships, will be featured at Bluffton University’s Masterworks Concert on Sunday, Feb. 22, in Yoder Recital Hall. Admission to the 2:30 p.m. concert is free; a free-will offering will be taken to help defray concert expenses.

Dr. Mark J. Suderman, a professor of music, will conduct the University Chorale, the Bluffton Choral Society and an orchestra of professional musicians, faculty and students in their performance of Haydn’s “Missa Brevis in B flat” and Handel’s “Zadok the Priest.”

Playgroup open to children and caregivers

The community is invited to join a playgroup at Bluffton Presbyterian Church, 112 N. Main St. Bluffton. The playgroup is for children ages 1-4 accompanied by a parent, grandparent or babysitter.  The group will meet in the nursery at Bluffton Presbyterian Church every Monday from 10:30-11:30 a.m.  February 23-May 25. Sign-up starts this week for Bluffton Diamond Sports baseball and softball

Get ready to play ball.

Bluffton Diamond Sports spring and summer baseball and softball sign-ups begin this week, according to Shawn Rayle and Erinn Prater. The sign-ups are for boys' ages 7-8, 9-10,11-12 and junior high. Girls’ age groups are 8-10, 11-13 and junior high.

Most of these games start near the end of April and continue through mid-June.
