August 2016: Hotter and dryer than normal

August 2016 was hotter than normal with less rain than normal, according to Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer.

During August the average daily temperature was 76.1 degrees. The normal August average daily temperature is 71.1 degrees.

This year, August had 2.18 inches of rainfall. The normal August average is 3.28 in inches.

The high reading of the moth was 92 on Aug. 3 and again on Aug. 4. The low reading was 54 on Aug. 22.

Boys' soccer: Pirates blank Paulding 6-0

Bluffton High School boys' soccer team scored 3 goals in first half and 3 goals in second half for 6-0 win over Paulding – the first game in Northwest Conference play for both teams.

• Douglas Nester headed in a goal at 33 minutes – assist by Luke Young
• Isaiah Schwab scored at 40 minutes - assist by Isaac Andreas

Adrian downs men's soccer 6-0 in season opener

ADRIAN, Mich. - Adrian College took down the Bluffton University men's soccer team 6-0 in the 2016 season opener for both teams. Adrian starts 1-0, while Bluffton stands 0-1 following Coach Kusak's first match at the helm.

The Bulldogs rolled to a 4-0 lead in the first 45 minutes before tacking on two more tallies for a 6-0 victory over the Beavers.

Women's Soccer drops opener 6-0 at Olivet

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision at Olivet in the 2016 season opener for both squads. The Beavers stand 0-1, while Olivet opens its campaign at 1-0.

Olivet netted four tallies during a 17-minute span late in the first half before tacking on two more scores after the break. It all added up to a 6-0 shutout for the home team.

16 non-profits benefit from Bluffton legion's charitable golf scramble

Sixteen area non-profit organizations received shares of proceeds from this summer’s Bluffton American Legion 7th annual charitable golf scramble.

That event generated over $7,000. Co-chair the golf outing were Fred Arnold and Sam Reineke.
