John Estell recognized at American Society of Engineering Education conference

Bluffton resident, Dr. John K. Estell, Ohio Northern University professor of computer engineering and computer science, and ONU student David Reeping, a senior in engineering education from Richfield, Ohio, were recipients of the Best Paper Award, Third Place, from the First-Year Programs Division of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) during the 122nd ASEE Annual Conference held June 14-17 in Seattle, Wash.

Healthways SilverSneakers for seniors returns to BFR

Bluffton Family Recreation is now offering weekly classes through the Healthway SilverSneakers Fitness Program, according to Joseph Beagle, director.

“The program is for older adults and involves regular physical activity,” said Beagle. “Each class session lasts between 45 and 60 minutes held on Fridays at 9:45 a.m. at BFR, 215 Snider Road, Bluffton.”

Althaus twins on their 1914-era Harley

Older Bluffton residents knew the Althaus twins - Levi and Willie. Here they are on a 1914-era Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Jesse Steiner took this photo. He was a teacher at the Hilty school (corner of State Route 696 and Columbus Grove Road). 

The Althaus brothers attended the school. This photo is from the collection of  Alan Eaton, whose grandfather was Jesse Steiner.

Memorial service for Phillip Kingsley June 27

A memorial service for Phillip Kingsley will be held on Saturday, June 27 at First Mennonite Church, Bluffton, Ohio at 11:00 a.m.  The family will be at the church for visiting from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. and pre-service music will begin at 10:40.

All guests are invited to a luncheon after the service, followed by a time of sharing memories and further visiting with the family.

Bluffton: Bicycle Capital of Ohio on June 21 thanks to GOBA's visit

Bluffton was be a one-day biker's paradise on Sunday (June 21).

Visitors to town were the 2,000+ participants in the 27th Annual Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure (GOBA).

Bikers started the tour in Van Wert on Sunday and made a 50-mile trip to Bluffton arriving between 9:30 a.m. 2 p.m. Earlier in the week chances of thundershowers were 60 percent,  which sent local planners to prepare an indoors "Plan B" for the guests.

The rains never came and Sunday was an enjoyable sunny day.
