Recipients of Henry P. Huber scholarships announced

The Henry P. Huber Scholarship Committee has announced the recipients of the 2015-2016 Huber Scholarship grants.

Greg Denecker, Superintendent of Bluffton Schools and a member of the scholarship committee, reports a total of $20,000.00 was awarded to 13 students.

The Scholarships are for students planning to major in vocational agriculture, or related fields of study. 

This year’s scholarship recipients are as follows.  An asterisk indicates the student was a Huber Scholarship recipient last year also.

Flash flood watch in effect through Saturday afternoon

Flash Flood Watch in effect from 2 p.m. today through Saturday afternoon.

The National Weather Service in northern Indiana has issued a Flash Flood Watch for a portion of northwest Ohio, including Allen, Defiance, Henry, Paulding Putnam and Van Wert.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and continue through Saturday afternoon.

Halle Steingass graduated from Bluffton High School in 2012 and has spent the past five weeks studying abroad in England and Italy. We got the chance to talk with her when she returned home.

Where are you attending school now and what are you studying?
I am attending Goshen College in northern Indiana, studying social work and music.

Storytime comes to the Farmers' Market Saturday AM

Old Mac Donald's Farm comes to the Bluffton Farmers' Market on Saturday.

Bluffton Public Library's Storytime for children ages 3 to 5 will take place at the market from 9 to 9:40 a.m., according to Esther Birkey, youth services coordinator at the library. On Saturday all ages are welcome to listen.

No fireworks June 27

The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce has postponed the Saturday, June 27, fireworks at Bluffton University. With a 60-80 percent chance of rain the forecast the chamber decided to reschedule the event for later this summer. A reschedule date is not yet set.

Shirley's donates $4,620 to University of Findlay's free literacy program

The Clubhouse, The University of Findlay’s free literacy program for children in Hancock County and surrounding areas, received $4,620 from Bluffton-based Shirley’s Gourmet Popcorn Co.

The funding will help pay for The Clubhouse’s tutors.

Shirley’s Gourmet Popcorn Company representatives presented a check to Clubhouse organizers on Monday during the closing celebration of the Summer 2015 3-2-1 Program, which provides free small group tutoring on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
