Maple Crest residents tour Challenged Champions Equestrian Center

Many Maple Crest elders lived on farms in their childhoods or in their adult years, so it was a real treat for some of them to tour the Challenged Champions Equestrian Center in Ottawa recently.

As we are closer and closer to the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and the opening of the Public and Private Health Insurance Exchanges starting Oct. 1, 2013, there are still many missing pieces to the puzzle.

Jim Boedicker entertains PrimeTimers on Sept. 3

PrimeTimers, who are persons 55 and older, will meet at noon, Tuesday, Sept. 3, at St. John Mennonite Church, 15988 Road 4, Pandora.

Following the meal, Jim Boedicker will provide musical entertainment featuring his guitar and vocal skills. 

A full meal will be provided including barbecue pork or shredded chicken sandwich, hash brown casserole, glazed carrots and homemade angel food cake. Donations toward the cost of the meal are accepted.

Five Bluffton Karate Center students advance

After 5 1/2 hours of testing in Augusut Bluffton Karate Center promoted five martial artists in the art of Shaolin Kempo karate.

The testing was administered by Master Instructor Sensei Rey Almanon and Sensei Diane Almanon of the Bluffton Karate Center and Sensei Teresa Coombs of Forest City, Iowa.

Bluffton Community Preschool welcomes new staff, enrollment underway

The Bluffton Community Preschool, which meets at the First United Methodist Church, 116 Church St., announces new director, Shelly Matijevich, who brings over 20 years of early childhood development experience as well as a love for children. 

Her career includes being a teacher, supervisor and manager. She said that she is looking forward to using her knowledge, skills and experience for the benefit of the children and families of the Preschool.
