Koenig nails 5 three-pointers in first quarter as BHS beats Jefferson

Alivia Koenig likes her jersey number 23.

She scored 23 points in Bluffton girls’ win over Delphos Jefferson on Dec. 10.  Her points included five treys in the first quarter – if that’s not a record, it should be.

The Pirates won the NWC contest 58 to 47. The game stats are in an attachment at the bottom of this story.

Bluffton's 2015 preliminary school test schools impressive

Bluffton students experienced outstanding scores in the Ohio Department of Education’s 2015 spring tests, according to figures released in November by the ODE.

Greg Denecker, Bluffton superintendent, told The Icon: "We are very pleased with our results and are continuing to work hard to prepare our students, not only on these assessments but to help prepare our students for success after graduation.

"These scores are a real tribute to our student, staff, parents, and community which all work together to have an excellent educational environment."

Town and Country's 3rd place window

Town and Country Flowers, South Main Street, Bluffton, is third place winner in this year's downtown window decorating contest. Voters were downtown store owners. First place was Curling Iron. Second place was Webb Insurance.

BFR accepting teams for Dec. 19-20 indoor soccer tourneys

Bluffton Family Recreation is accepting soccer teams for Dec. 19-20 indoor tournament.

A high school division tournament is Saturday, Dec. 19, with the first game at 9 a.m.

An adult division tournament is Sunday, Dec. 20, with the first game at 1:30 p.m.

Games are 25 minutes each with a maximum of eight teams per division. The registration fee is $75 per team.

Men down Earlham behind 26 Rohde markers

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's basketball team hosted Earlham College on Wednesday, Dec. 9, in an HCAC matchup. The Beavers were able to pick up their fifth win of the season, including their 21st consecutive victory over the Quakers. The 72-61 win moved Bluffton to 5-1 (2-0 HCAC) on the season and kept Earlham winless at 0-5 and 0-2 in the HCAC.
