Insurance carrier's initial payment on town hall damage reaches $146,645

The Village of Bluffton's insurance carrier has okayed an initial payment of $146,645.64 for the damage caused to the town hall as a result of the sprinkler head that broke in May.

In his report to council, Jamie Mehaffie, village administrator,  will inform council that this amount was based on an initial claim of $174,378.98 submitted by the adjustor. It was reduced by the village's $1,000 deductible and $26,733.34 in depreciation.

Bluffton council has until end of September to appoint replacement for Mitch Kingsley

With the July 7 announcement by Mitch Kingsley that he will resign his Bluffton council post on Sept. 1, the council is again in the search for a new member.

The 30-day clock starts ticking on Sept. 1 for council to replace Kingsley. If that does not happen, Mayor Judy Augsburger will appoint his replacement.

Council has not announced whether it will directly appoint a replacement for Kingsley or will invite Bluffton residents to apply for the post.

Council will consider surveillance cameras at Service Department garage

On Monday, Bluffton council will hear a request for surveillance cameras to be placed at the village Service Department Garage on Spring Street.

Jamie Mehaffie, village administrator, says that for years the village has discussed placing cameras there.

Jessica Grandy offered assistant treasurer post

Jessica Grandey was offered a position with the Bluffton schools as assistant treasurer. The Bluffton school board approved offering Grandey the contract during a special meeting on July 26.

The contract is for two years with an annual salary of $39,000 for fiscal year 2015, with an exception for days not worked prior to commencement date of Aug. 6, 2014.

The Bluffton school board will meet in special session at 7:30 a.m., Saturday, July 26, according to Paula Parish, school treasurer. The meeting is in the superintendent's office.

The purpose of the meeting is to consider the hiring ao an assistant treasurer.
