Dough Hook trades cookies for Food Pantry donations

From Tuesday, Nov. 17, to Saturday, Nov. 21, The Dough Hook, 117 N. Main St., Bluffton, will trading cookies for canned food.

All food collected will be donated to the Bluffton Food Bank. Some items needed include include cereal, canned fruit, spaghettios, ravioli and soup. The trade will be one free cookie for each item donated. Bring in 12 items and receive a dozen cookies free.

Registration deadline for Blaze parade Friday

The deadline for registering for this year's Blaze of Lights parade is Friday, Nov. 21. According to Junior Weihrauch of Arlington, the parade chairperson, over 40 units are already pre-registered.

This year's parade line up is the same as last year's. Line up is at 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 28, at The Centre parking lot, 601 N. Main St. The parade starts at 5 p.m.

Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce gift certificates are now available at Citizens National Bank. The certificates are actually checks from the chamber's account. The certificates make great Christmas gifts.

Friday Blaze auction open to public

Donation deadline noon Friday;
Blaze auction Friday night

Bluffton residents are invited to a big party to launch the 2009 Blaze of Lights. The party, open to the public, starts at 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 20, at The Centre, 601 N. Main St.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and musical entertainment starts at 6 p.m. The party includes an auction, food, gingerbread house decorating contest and middle school art contest.

The event is free and open to the public.

Big idea contest deadline extends to Nov. 30

The entries for the first-everl Big Idea Contest must be postmarked by Nov. 30 and sent to Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs. This event is designed for aspiring entrepreneurs and start-up businesses in northwest Ohio who have innovative ideas and plan to pursue their own business.

Art on exhibit at Common Grounds

Lima artist H.A. (Herb) Vonderau has several paintings on exhibit in November at Common Grounds coffee shop on Main Street, Bluffton. The artist does house and people portraits and other themes. He attended Ft. Wayne Art Institute, Community College of Rhode Island and Rhodes State College.

He teaches drawing classes at Otterbein Assisted Living Homes, Cridersville. His work has been featured in galleries in Rhode Island, Florida, Ohio and Indiana. His work is also regularly featured in local coffee houses.
