Donavin Dunbar fought in the Battle of the Bulge

Donavin D. Dunbar, 90, died on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at 1:05 a.m. at Hardin Hills Health Center, Kenton.

He was born on Nov. 25, 1922 in Columbus Grove, Ohio, to John and Esther (Liecthy) Dunbar and they preceded him in death. On June 25, 1943, he married Betty J. Stauffer and she preceded him in death on December 6, 2007.

Marcene Martz was active in the Bluffton American Legion Auxiliary

Marcene S. Martz, 89, of Bluffton died Oct. 19, 2013 in Mesquite, Texas.  She was born May 14, 1924, in Hancock County to Swan D. and Harriet Ewing Stonehill. On Oct. 20, 1946 she married Donald Martz and he preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 2001.

She retired from Ex-Cell-O Corp., Bluffton where she was a receptionist. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Bluffton where she had served as secretary of the church board, sang in the choir and was a member of United Methodist Women.

Funeral arrangements incomplete for Marcene Martz

Marcene S. Martz, 89, of Bluffton died Oct. 19, 2013, in Mesquite, Texas.  Arrangements are incomplete at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Bluffton.

Mr. Weatherman, Ray Burkholder, dies at age 96

Ray L. Burkholder, 96 of Pandora, retired farmer, and renowned National Weather Service observer died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at the Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora.

He was born July 3, 1917, in rural Pandora to the late Christian C. and Bertha (Zuercher) Burkholder. Following the death of his mother in 1921 Ray resided with his paternal uncle and aunt, Amos and Katie Burkholder, until his father’s marriage to Irma (Foltz) in 1925.

William Johnson was Cory-Rawson's first all-state football player

William "Bill" Johnson, 65, of Forest, was born in Lima, Ohio, on Aug. 7, 1948, to Howard W. and Norma (Waltz) Johnson. He died at 12:15 p.m. on Oct. 15, 2013 at his residence. He married Jacquelynn "Jacki" Schey on Nov. 28, 1970, and she survives.

A graduate of Cory-Rawson High School in 1966, he was the first All-State Football player from the school, as well as an All-State baseball player. He attended The Ohio State University and played his freshman year on the baseball and football teams.

Robert C. Brown was a Navy veteran

Robert C. Brown, 80, of Bluffton died Oct. 12, 2013, at Richland Manor, Bluffton. He was born April 25, 1933, in Findlay to Harry C. and Winifred Ruby Harman Brown. 

Hewas a retired welder for Werk-Brau of Findlay and Clark Equipment, Lima. He also worked at the Et Cetera Shop, Bluffton. He was a member of First Mennonite Church, Bluffton. He was a Navy veteran.
