Diabetes support group plans upcoming meetings

Blanchard Valley Hospital, in partnership with the Greater Northwest Ohio Diabetes Association and the Findlay YMCA, will be holding diabetes support group meetings.

The meetings will include an educational presentation and discussion. All meeting will be held from 7-8 p.m. in the pool room at the downtown Findlay YMCA, 300 E. Lincoln St., Findlay.

Dates and topics of upcoming meetings include:

Monday, May 14
Topic: Taking Charge of Your Diabetes
Speaker: Nancy Proctor, RN, M.Ed.

Look who is getting a life membership from the Senior Citizens Association

Donavin Montgomery and Richard Glasser will receive life memberships into the Bluffton Senior Citizens Association during the Monday, May 14, association dinner meeting. The two men will reach their 90th birthdays in May.

The May 14 meeting, at 6 p.m. at the center has a catered meal from Ted's Market, Pandora. Mary Hofstetter is the MC. Betty Moser and friends are hostesses. Jill Bland will entertain members with her singing as the program.

Summer specials that fit everyone's budget begin soon at BFR

BFR has a summer membership special to fit most Icon viewers through Aug. 31, according to Carole Enneking, director.

The summer membership includes four months of individual membership benefits for the price of the 3-month membership. This special is available to those 14 years of age and older. Included with this membership is access to the fitness center, indoor track, discounts on fitness class fees, access to open recreation hours and free workout services from a BFR trainer. Cost of the membership special is $87.86.

Multiple Sclerosis support group meets May 9

Friends Helping Friends is the Multiple Sclerosis group that meets the second Wednesday of the month in the Bluffton town hall. Meetings are at 6:30 p.m. and are open to those in the area who have MS, or their
family and any friends who are interested in learning more aboup coping skills.

The speaker for the May 9 meeting is Nancy Honse, who will talk about herbs, their care and how to use them.

This is National Childhood Immunization Week

Allen County Public Health remind Icon viewers that this is "National Childhood Immunization Week."

Most parents today have never seen first-hand the devastating consequences that vaccine-preventable diseases can have on a child, a family, or community.

Thanks to vaccines, many of these diseases are not common in the U.S., but they persist around the world.

"It's important to remind parents that immunizations are still the best way to protect their children from 14 vaccine-preventable diseases," says Kathy Luhn, Health Commissioner.
