BHS volleyball overtaken by Mustangs

The Bluffton High School volleyball team won the first two sets, but visiting backyard rival Allen East rallied to take the final three to capture their Northwest Conference season finale showdown Tuesday evening, October 11.

The tough loss dropped the overall Bluffton record to 13-8, and they finished 4-4 in the league to end up fifth in the nine-team league.

AE came from behind to win the 18-25, 22-25, 25-16, 25-21, 16-14 thriller, clinching it in a tight fifth set.

BHS girls soccer shuts out Cory with big 2nd half

The Bluffton girls soccer team scored all five of its goals in the second half to decisively defeat visiting local rival Cory-Rawson 5-0 Tuesday night.

The shutout non-league victory upped the Lady Pirate record to 13-2. It was Bluffton's seventh straight win since losing at Riverdale 1-0 on September 10.

Meanwhile, the Hornet girlss fell to 4-11-1 with the loss.

Pirate Karson Hauenstein netted the first goal 52 minutes into the fray on an assist from Sami Scoles.

Bluffton women’s golf at HCAC Preview

KALIDA—The Bluffton University women's golf team shot a 357 on Sunday, Oct. 9, en route to a 4th place finish at the HCAC Preview. The Beavers went 354 and 357 for a 711 total which is the 4th best 36-hole score in Bluffton history.

Firing an 84 on Sunday after an 81 on Saturday, sophomore Kiley Cline (Fostoria/Hopewell Louden) took 2nd place with a 165 which is 4th all-time for the Beavers! Also showing out at the HCAC Preview was Allie Waggener (Hilliard/Hilliard Bradley) who followed up her 85 from round one with another 85 on Sunday for 170 and a 6th place finish.

BHS volleyball seeded ninth in rugged sectional

The Bluffton High School volleyball team was seeded ninth in the tough 12-team Div. III Kalida district drawing Sunday, October 9.

The Pirate girls (13-7) will play at eighth seed Van Buren (15-3) in the sectional first round at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 17.

The winner will then face fourth seed Ottawa-Glandorf (11-9) at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19 in the sectional finals.

BHS girls soccer seeded 1st of 12

Northwest Conference champion Bluffton High School was seeded first among the 12 teams in their Div. III girls soccer sectional drawing Sunday.

As top seed, the Pirates (12-2) were voted a first round bye. 

They will host the winner between eighth seed Cory-Rawson (4-10-1) and 10th seed Ashland Crestview (2-10-1) in round two Thursday, October 20 at 5 p.m.

Toledo Edison (9-4-1) is the fourth seed and if form holds, would face Bluffton in the district semifinals Oct. 25 at 7:15 p.m. on the Steinmetz Field pitch.

Pirates lose NWC 1st-place football showdown with AE

After a close and low-scoring first half, Bluffton High School lost 30-14 to visiting backyard rival Allen East in a Northwest Conference football showdown between the last two remaining league unbeatens Friday night, October 7, at Harmon Field.

The Pirates fell out of a first-place tie with Allen East atop the NWC with the Homecoming loss as the Mustangs snapped their four-game win streak. 

Bluffton is now 5-3 overall, dropping to 4-1 in the league and into a second-place tie with Columbus Grove after the loss.
