A story about a woman who voted in Bluffton in 1915

Today is the 100th anniversary of the ratification of women's rights to vote

100 years ago today. The 19th amendment guaranteed all American women the right to vote.

Somewhere in a collection of family photos is a 1920 snapshot of my Hahn grandparents, Bertha and Fred, standing in front of their home at 216 W. Elm St., Bluffton.

I know it was 1920 because taped to the window behind them was a Harding for president poster. I never felt the significance of the snapshot recently – today in fact, in really struck home.

Riley Street, here we come

That's correct. Riley Street, here comes the next extension to the Bentley Road pedestrian and bike path. Power lines are moved and the roadbed is dug. As work continues a virtual ribbon cutting is projected mid-September. This view is from the Riley Street corner looking south. The next photo is from Richland Drive looking north.

Volunteer drivers needed for Our Daily Bread Mobile Meals

MHCO hopes to relaunch the program

Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio is exploring renewing its previously suspended Our Daily Bread Mobile Meals Program, according to Chris Moser, director of resource development and church relations.

The popular program was suspended with the arrival of covid-19 in Ohio.

Moser said that it is hoped the program can restart, which is available from Mennonite Memorial Home of Bluffton and Hilty Home of Pandora.

“But, prior to making an announcement on its continuation,” he said, “we are making an appeal for needed volunteer drivers."

2020 ONU Holiday Spectacular canceled

Due to COVID-19 restrictions and health concerns

FROM ADA ICON - Due to COVID-19 restrictions and health concerns, “The ONU Holiday Spectacular” has been canceled for 2020.

Although this decision is regrettable, it is also the only reasonable choice in the current environment, especially in regards to protecting the health of the many performers and others involved in this production, including Ohio Northern students as well as other members of the university and area communities, in addition to guests and theater staff members.

Plans are to again host the extravaganza in 2021 and beyond.
