Bluffton school district accepting open enrollment applications

The Bluffton Exempted Village School District is currently accepting applications from students interested in attending the school district through open enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year.

Students from any school district in Ohio may apply and enroll in Bluffton Schools tuition free. Students are admitted on a full-time basis only.

Applications are approved annually on a first-come, first-served basis and approval is subject to grade level enrollment and educational programs.

Peggy Ann Bowyer 1932 - 2021

Peggy Ann Bowyer, 88, died Jan. 2, 2021, of natural causes.

The youngest of six siblings, she was born in Bluffton, Ohio, on March 7, 1932, to the late Dorothy and Charles Young.

Following graduation from Bluffton High School in 1950, she married Kenneth Bowyer on June 24, 1950, and they were married 56 years prior to his death.

Peggy Ann Bowyer (Young) lived a long life and devoted herself to raising her children through various bumps, bruises, and more than a few broken limbs. Ever resourceful, she taught herself how to can and freeze vegetables from the family’s large garden and her freezer jam (grape, strawberry, peach, and black raspberry) was much enjoyed by her family.

Mark Sommers wins Bluffton Icon football bowl contest

Watch for national playoff contest posted tonight

Mark Sommers is the winner of the Bluffton Icon college football bowl contest. Of the 73 entries, he picked 12 correct winners and also picked both tie-breakers. He receives a 1-item, 14-inch Padrone's Pizza.

Angie Guinn was the winner of the Ada Icon contest.

Busy weekend for Pirate wrestlers

BLUFFTON - The Pirate varsity wrestling squad hosted the six-team Bluffton Duals Tournament Saturday.

Celina, St. Marys and Columbus Grove posted identical records of 4-1 in the event. 

St. Marys was declared the tournament winner after the tie-breaker. The Roughriders lost by only one point to Grove, and beat Celina by 15.

Bluffton registered a 1-4 record in the dual meet competition as they defeated Kenton for their lone win.

Trevor Hisey of St. Marys was named the Most Valuable Wrestler of the tournament.
