Women’s soccer camp for age 15 and up June 18

The women’s soccer team at Bluffton University will host an ID Camp from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, June 18.

The camp is open to players aged 15 and up who aspire to compete at the collegiate level. The camp will be an opportunity for high school athletes to improve their skill level through coaching sessions, to understand the training regimen at the collegiate level and to learn about the unique opportunities Bluffton offers student-athletes.

The registration fee is $80 and includes lunch and t-shirt.

Softball day camp for advanced players July 18-19

The Bluffton University softball team will host day camps for advanced and youth players.

An advanced day camp will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, July 18-19. During the camp, for students entering grades 7-12, participants will have the opportunity to advance their skills in fielding, hitting, base running and more under the guidance of Bluffton University coaches and players. The cost is $75.

University hosts volleyball skill camp June 20-22

The Bluffton University volleyball team will host a variety of skills camps from Monday, June 20-Wednesday, June 22.

A serve, pass, dig camp for high school students will take place from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Monday, June 20. The camp will focus on the improvement of serving, passing and digging skills. The instruction will be focused and individualized.

Future Pirate varsity

Eric Garmatter, Bluffton High School varsity girls' basketball coach, offers a word of encouragement to elementary girls participating in a girls' Pirates summer basketball camp. The camp takes place this week in the BHS gym.

Mosquito control rolls out Wednesday at dusk

Bluffton's mosquito patrol launches the 2016 season on Wednesday evening, according to Jamie Mehaffie, village administrator.

"Now that mosquito activity has been observed in various places throughout the village, the service separtment will begin spraying for mosquitos on Wednesday, June 8," he told The Icon.

Mehaffie said that the spraying will tbegin around dusk on Wednesdays as necessary with Thursdays being the alternate day if weather does not permit the spraying.

The Bluffton Community Swimming Pool is open for the summer. Here’s all the information you need, according to Jennie Wilson, pool manager.

The new heater and shade area should be installed in the next two weeks.
