Spring storyhour sessions start Feb. 3 at Bluffton Public Library

Beginning Feb. 3, storytime for preschoolers ages 3 to 5 will be held at the Bluffton Public Library at 6:30 p.m. on Mondays and at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays. Sessions will continue until the end of April.

Themes this spring include the Olympics, numbers, monkeys, and more! Each storytime session is approximately 30 minutes long and includes stories, songs, and other related activities. Storytime is a free, fun way to help children develop early literacy skills and their imagination.

BFR-university dietetic interns invite you to join Friday evening's Keeping Active kick off

BFR Sport and Fitness annual Keeping Active campaign's annual kick off event is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24. The campaign is co-sponsored by the Bluffton University dietetic interns, according to Carole Enneking, BFR director, and Jennifer Little, university dietetics.

Icon viewers are encouraged to attend the program, which includes information and registration for the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award challenge.

Dick Tschetter pastored at St. John Mennonite; after retirement was on staff of Ebenezer Mennonite

Richard "Dick" Tschetter, 95 died Jan. 23, 2014, at his residence. He was born to Peter P. and Carra (Dirks) Tschetter on Dec. 17, 1918, in Canton, Kansas. He grew up at Bridgewater and Freeman, S.D. and graduated from Freeman High School.  He also graduated from Grace Bible Institute (now Grace University) in Omaha, Neb., and from Bethel College in North Newton, Kan.

Jan. 27 next gluten-free and food allergy support group meeting

The gluten-free and food allergy support group has three monthly meeetings planned this winter.

All programs at open to the public and are in the Richland Room at the Bluffton Public Library.

Jan. 27 - "Living without Gluten," 6-7:30 p.m.
Feb. 24 - "Living with Soy, Nuts and Egg Allergies," Susan Kennedy, speaker, 6-7:30 p.m.
March 24 - "Living without Refined Sugar," Mary Claire Petro, speaker, 6-7:30 p.m.

Each program includes food samples, the opportunity to share recipes, meet supportive friends, gain information and learn from others' experience.

Bluffton Diamond Sports summer registration starts soon; forms are on The Icon

Bluffton Diamond Sports announces its spring and summer baseball and softball sign-ups, according to Erinn Prater.

Dates are:
• Thursday, Feb. 6, from 6- 8 p.m. – Bluffton HS gym entrance
• Friday, Feb. 14, from 6- 8 p.m. – Bluffton HS gym entrance
• Saturday, Feb. 15, from 9 a.m. to noon – Blluffton HS gym entrance

Geneva Powell 1920-2014

Geneva Powell, 93, of Pandora died Jan. 22, 2014, at 7 a.m. at the Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora. She was born Dec. 7, 1920, in Beech Grove, Tenn., to the late John and Myrtle Hatmaker Bennett. In 1941 she married Johnnie Powell who preceded her in death on Jan. 26, 1981. 

She was a homemaker. She was raised in the Baptist Church.
