The Bluffton University men’s soccer team was defeated 3-0 by Earlham College on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012. The Beavers fell to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in the HCAC while Earlham improved to 3-7-2 overall and 1-0-2 in the HCAC.

Senior Ben Kaufman (Ottawa-Glandorf) was recently named Heartland Conference Player of the Week for his work at Rose-Hulman on Saturday. Kaufman is the third Bluffton player to be honored this season and the second on the defensive side of the ball. Fellow linebacker Joe Maldonado took home Player of the Week honors following Bluffton's 20-0 shutout of Kenyon in week one.

The Mennonite Memorial Home (MMH) campus was a hub of activity on Sept. 29 as part of the Bluffton Fall Festival.

From 10 am to noon, visitors could peruse the Silent Auction items, eat lunch and pick up delicious home-baked goods from the Service Group’s bake sale.

Outside, the fun continued with craft tables with items for sale made by residents of the MMH campus and face painting, kiddie train rides and a hay dig for kids.

Fall Festival day at Maple Crest (Sept. 29,) was full of several events.

By 10 a.m. a colorful array of 31 tractors, 8 engines and one corn shredding machine was lined up ready to be examined.

Maple Crest residents got a big kick out of riding up and down the rows of machines in a sulky pulled by TR Steiner’s tractor. For all who participated, the experience was a reminder of our agricultural heritage, and for many, it was an opportunity to relive farming moments in their personal histories.

Area history buffs may now purchase a two-sided Delano Morey challenge coin from the Hardin County Historical Museum, Kenton. Coins are $20 each.

Morey was a member of the 82nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry (or 82nd OVI) an infantry regiment in the Union Army during the American Civil War. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action at McDowell, Virginia, May 8, 1862.

According to the historical society, the supply of coins is very limited.

Fred,
Who cares about the Model T’s.! (this week's historical Bluffton photo). Check out the 1958 Chevy Impala convertible (with top down) in front of Niswander’s newsstand. The color is Black Onyx. It has wide white wall tires, fender skirts and a Continental tire on the extended bumper.

Sloppy play and defense dominated at Spencerville as the Pirates fell 22-0 to go to 3-4 on the season. Each team fumbled fives each and also lost three of those fumbles. There were also nine total turnovers in the game.

The first quarter went scoreless as both teams traded punts until Spencerville scored with a six-yard TD pass in the second to go up 6-0.

The Pirate defense held strong for the rest of the half but the offense could not get going as the team turned the ball over four times in the first half.

The winner of Week 7 of The Icon Football Contest is Dave Moser, who correctly picked 12 games this week.
