Pirates shutout on road at Spencerville
By Bryan Kress
Sloppy play and defense dominated at Spencerville as the Pirates fell 22-0 to go to 3-4 on the season. Each team fumbled fives each and also lost three of those fumbles. There were also nine total turnovers in the game.
The first quarter went scoreless as both teams traded punts until Spencerville scored with a six-yard TD pass in the second to go up 6-0.
The Pirate defense held strong for the rest of the half but the offense could not get going as the team turned the ball over four times in the first half.
Spencerville took the ball in the second and scored on a 38-yard run to open the half. They would score again on another run after intercepting a pass on the previous drive.
The scoring would stop there for both teams as the Bluffton offense could not gain any momentum against a strong Spencerville defense.
Quarterback Mitchell Ault completed three of his 13 passes for 22 yards and two interceptions. Zach Wilson led the team in rushing for 41 yards.
The Bluffton defense only gave up 289 yards on the road but could not get any help from the offense who turned the ball over five times.
Bluffton are on the road for the third straight week against Lima Central Catholic (7-0).
