Edgar S. Cook, 95, of Bluffton died at 3:19 p.m., Dec. 26, 2013 at Willow Ridge, Bluffton.
He was born January 9, 1918. in Westminster to Edgar R. and Bonnie M Scholfield Cook. On May 27, 1944, he married Mary Jane Klay and she preceded him in death Oct. 25, 2012.
Linda Fleming remembers the invitation from Carolyn Rich to become the Bluffton-Beaverdam-Richland Township United Way executive secretary.
It was 1983. Both women worked at Bluffton University.
As Fleming recalls, Rich walked across the hall from one Riley Court office to the one where Fleming worked. The invitation was to be part of a community service organization, which Fleming might keep for a couple years.
Fleming took the volunteer post, but not for a couple years – instead, for 30 years. This month she’s retiring.

My brother, Rudolf, was born in 1943 or was it '42?. He was named after his great-grandfather, Rudolf Althaus. Well, everything was going along fine until Gene Autry recorded Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer. That was in 1949, the year I was born.
Sarah R. Ginther, 36, of Bluffton, died at 7:46 p.m., Dec. 21, 2013 at Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus.
She was born Dec. 2, 1977, in Bluffton to Dean and Mary Shank Luginbill and they survive in Pandora. On Nov. 11, 2000 she married Paul Ginther and he survives.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John Mennonite Church, Pandora, a 1996 graduate of Pandora-Gilboa High School and graduated from Malone College with a bachelor's degree in social work.
