Lentil Soup with Lemon and Spinach
(Makes approximately 5-6 servings)

1 tbsp. olive oil
1 onion, finely chopped
3 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 tsp. cumin
1 c. red or brown lentils, rinsed
5 c. water (or vegetable or chicken broth)
1/8 c. fresh parsley
1 c. fresh spinach leaves
Zest of 1/2 lemon or 1/2 tsp. dried lemon zest
Juice of one lemon or 1 1/2 tbsp. lemon juice
Salt and pepper, to taste

Joe L. Goodman, 82, of Bluffton died at 7:55 a.m. March 22, 2014, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. He was born Dec. 10, 1931, in Bluffton to the late Walter and Bessie Emans Goodman. On June 29, 1956, he married Lois L. Amstutz and she survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Lisa (Robert) Hetzer of Dayton, two sons, Joe (Julie) Goodman of Marysville, Jerry (Susan) Goodman of Fostoria, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a sister, Colleen Hight of Pandora, two brothers-in law, Chuck (Janice) and Butch (Iva) Amstutz.

Business and organizational personnel who want to develop their leadership skills, enhance productivity and increase profits while contributing to the common good now have the chance to enroll in an MBA program like no other.

Three institutions affiliated with the Mennonite Education Agency—Bluffton  University, Eastern Mennonite University in Virginia and Goshen (Ind.) College—have joined forces to launch “The Collaborative MBA” to shape transformative leaders.

Two major sponsors of the Bluffton American Legion Post 382 golf scramble fundraiser were recognized recently.

Sam Reineke, representing the post, presented plaques to Stratton Auto and Tommy Tire for their generous support for the Bluffton American Legion Golf Scramble.

"Without all of our sponsors, this worthy project would not be possible," said Denny Morrison of the Post. 

In addition, the Legion recently recognized Sarah Schriner, Bluffton High School senior, who won the Post's oratorical contest.

Nine creative winners were recognized ealier this month for their participation in the Bluffton Family Recreation Sports and Fitness Center’s Keeping Active coloring contest, which was co-sponsored by Bluffton University’s Dietetic Internship as a part of BFR’s Keeping Active campaign.

Children, ages 3-10 were able to color pictures of healthy foods during the Kick-off event and throughout the January-February Keeping Active campaign which featured many events, including the Presidential Active Lifestyle Challenge for adults.

A wild pitch with the bags full of Beavers in the bottom of the ninth sent the Bluffton faithful into a frenzy as the home team came all the way back from an 8-4 deficit to cap an 11-10 victory over Albion College on a cold Thursday, March 20. Bluffton improved to 7-4 following its fifth consecutive victory, while the Britons dipped to 4-6 on the season.
