Bluffton University’s 17th annual Alumni and Friends Golf Scramble raised roughly $9,400 for university athletics through TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) Bluffton.

Harrod’s Colonial Golfers Club hosted the July 19 event, which drew 108 golfers from Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Arizona, Florida and South Carolina.

The winners of the scramble received monetary prizes. The three-man team of alumni Gary Jones ’72 of Columbus Grove, Tom Baratko ’72 of Springboro and Denny Lane ’70 of Bellefontaine took first place.

Area vehicle owners take note: Effective July 31 Kirtland’s Auto Repair, 302 N. Main St., will no longer repair vehicles.

Kirtland’s Auto Sales, in the same location, will continue to sell automobiles. Gary Kirtland has owned the business since 1985.

In other words: Kirtland’s is out of the repair business – but remains in the car sales business.

Up to now 10 percent of the business has been car sales and 90 percent repair. “We want to see it at 100 percent car sales,” said Kirtland.

Bluffton school board will act on approval of $14,058,262 appropriations for 2014-15 at Monday night's July school board session. 

In addition, as the new school year gets closer, the board will finalize several last-minute items. Among those are:

Bluffton council will hear several updates on village projects from Jamie Mehaffie, village administrator, during Monday’s council meeting. A summary of those updates follow. The complete council agenda is in an attachment at the bottom of this story.

Town Hall
According to the village insurance adjustor, he will submit the file to the insurance carrier this week. Supposedly, we should have a response in seven to 10 days.

A benefit for Angie Palte is planned from 1 to 10 p.m., Saturday, July 19, at Springfield Fireworks, 490 State Route 103, Bluffton. Friends and family members plan the benefit.

How better to celebrate summer than with some ice cream?

Tommy Tire Sales, 319 N. Main St., will serve free ice cream from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, July 25, in front of its business, according to Tom and Sheena Dotson, owners.

"Jay Lugibihl will have his antique ice cream maker set up and we’re giving free bowls of ice cream to anyone in the town who would like to stop by for a bowl," said Tom and Shenna.
