As Bluffton prepares for the Bluffton for Hope cancer relay for life fundraiser June 19-20, the downtown will take on a purple look. 

Purple is the color used by the American Cancer Society for Relay for Life events.  Many downtown businesses will show their support with purple shoes displayed on the outside of their shops.

The 2015 Bluffton for Hope relay event will begin at 6.m. on Friday, June 19, held at BFR Sports & Fitness, 215 Snider Road, due to renovations at the Bluffton University stadium.

Shirley’s Gourmet Popcorn Company is expanding to the Columbus area this fall, and is adding two area couples as its first franchisees.

A children’s book published last fall by The Lion and Lamb Peace Arts Center of Bluffton University has been named as one of this year’s 25 outstanding books by Skipping Stones magazine.

“Swords to Plowshares: The Creation of John P. Klassen’s Mennonite Central Committee Medallion” has received a 2015 Honor Award from the international literary magazine for youth.

Columbus Grove won the Northwest Conference 2014-15 “Don Bachman Award of Excellence” for the second time with a strong finish in the spring sports season.  This award recognizes the school in the conference that exhibits the highest level of consistent excellence in conference-sponsored sports and scholastic bowl competition.

Bluffton's next American Red Cross blood drive is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, June 9, at Bluffton Hospital.

Call 1-800-RED CROSS or go to redcrossblood.org, sponsor code "bluffchos" to schedule yoiur blood donation appointment. Walks ins are also accepted.

All blood donors will receive a free serving of Shirley's Popcorn.

In the era before Title IX, when high school girls didn't compete in varsity sports, there existed the Girls' Athletic Association, known as GAA.

Here's the Bluffton High School GAA members from the 1949-1950 school year, 65 sports seasons ago.

Too bad, we'll never know how many trophies these young women athletes might have earned for BHS.

Bluffton University will add to its list of more than 85 academic programs this fall semester by offering two new majors: teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) and pre-art therapy.

TESOL, which has been available at Bluffton as a minor for roughly two decades, will have an expanded curriculum—including courses in language, education and the social sciences—for students to fulfill the new major.
