June 2015

In November 2015, the Bluffton Senior Center will have been in operation for 45 years. In honor of the upcoming anniversary, the window at the Senior Center has been decorated with items familiar to senior citizens when the center opened in 1970. Keith and Shirley Sommer have collected various items such as a record player, a rotary phone and a vintage hair dryer. The Bluffton High School art department has provided a sign that says “45 years and counting." All are invited to view the window decorations.

The second annual running (and swimming and biking) of Bluffton’s Be A Beaver Triathlon brought about 100 competitors to town on Saturday, May 30.

The participants—up in number from 64 for the event’s debut last year—started with a jump into the Bluffton Community Pool for a 400-meter swim. A 20-kilometer (12.4-mile) bike ride and a 5K (3.1-mile) run completed the triathlon, won for the second straight year by Justin Kahle, 21, of Defiance, Ohio, in a time of 58 minutes, 28 seconds.

Almost 1,000 seniors from across the state are putting finishing touches on manuscripts, poems, paintings, sculptures and other works of art in preparation for the annual regional and state-wide Art and Writing Shows sponsored by LeadingAge Ohio.

The Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton, will host the Northwest Region competition on Thursday, June 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., which is open to the public.

Richland Manor invites the community to  T200,  a wellness event on Thursday, June 4 at 1 p.m. Trilogy’s Bike Tour, a group that is bike riding 200 miles through the Ohio region, will visit the Richland Manor campus and then finishing the bike tour at the Lima Springview campus.

Local venders will have booths, promoting health and playing fun games. This is a free event and open to the public.
