Clarence M. Kooker, 87, of Bluffton died May 11, 2016, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay. Arrangements are pending at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.
Sam Diller was recognized last week by the R. L. and Etta L. Triplett Memorial Foundation board.
Diller was a charter member of the foundation, having served along with Eugene Benroth, Harold Balmer and Jean and Morris Triplett, beginning in 1985 until his retirement from the board last year.
Not only did Diller give 29 years of service the foundation, but he provided office space and secretarial service at no cost, as well as serving for many years as the foundation treasurer.
A dormant Bluffton housing development gained new life this week.
Parkview Development is back. Approved by Bluffton council in 2007, it became mothballed by the Great Recession of 2008 when the housing market collapsed nationwide.
Owners Stanley and Joenita Clemens, developers of Riverbend subdivision, developed the Parkview project and own the land. It lies between Riley Creek and the rear of properties on South Main.
The Clemens announced the impending sale of the land to Three S Development Group, LLC. Those owners are Jeff, Derek and Dan Snyder.
Rachel Woodruff, daughter of David and Margie Woodruff, Bluffton, was awarded the Newcomb Scholar award at Ohio State University’s College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences recognition program in April.
The award recognizes five students with the highest academic ranking in each grade level within the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, the School of Environment and Natural Resources and the Agricultural Technical Institute.
The Western Ohio Chapter of the Lincoln Highway Association will meet at 6 p.m. for dinner at the Casa Lu Al, 2323 N. West St. in Lima on Tuesday, May 17.
After dinner, the group will tour the historic home at 2280 W. Lincoln Highway, which includes a "speakeasy" in the basement at 7:15 p.m. The home is located a mile west of State Route 115 on Lincoln Highway. The public is invited.
L. Eloise Schick, 94, died May 10, 2016, at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. She was born Jan. 2, 1922 in Allen County, Ohio to the late Chancey J. and Lulu (Doty) Spallinger.
Eloise graduated from LaFayette-Jackson High School in 1939. On June 17, 1941, she married Harold P. Schick. They celebrated over 64 years of marriage before his death on May 6, 2006.
Eloise was a hard working housewife who lived the farm life until moving into Bluffton in the early 1990s.
BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University softball team had three of its members recognized when the All-Heartland Conference awards were announced on Wednesday, May 11. Josie McElroy (Mt. Orab/Western Brown) and Kelsi Wilson (Pataskala/Licking Heights) both collected First Team All-HCAC honors while Kelsey Reeder (Galion/Northmor) was named Honorable Mention All-HCAC.
This year's, on May 11, was like all the others. In the Icon's mind, Danielle Cross, Bluffton third grader, won the jump rope competition (even though there wasn't a competition).
Watch as she jumps rope 100 times. She could have continued, but stopped at the magic number.
