“How to succeed in Bluffton by really trying,” is a presentation that Fred Steiner, retiring director of the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce, will give during the Friday, May 13, chamber breakfast.

The breakfast, open to the public, is in the third floor of the Bluffton town hall. The Dough Hook will cater the breakfast. Breakfast is served from 7 to 7:30 a.m. The program is from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University track and field team hosted the 2016 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships last weekend and Coach Brandt's efforts culminated in a highly successful showing for the Beavers. The campus and community came together in force and staged a once-a-decade meet while making it look like a weekly occurrence at the Sears Complex!

Mark Lynn Moyer, 57, of McDonald, died Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at his home. 

He was born September 30, 1958 in Bluffton, OH, a son of the late Donald Moyer and Louise Reichenbach Schwieterman of Maria Stein, OH.

Moyer was a principal in contracts management for Atos, whose home office is in France, for the past 21 years.

Bluffton's favorite Saturday morning spring and summer pasttime returns on Saturday.

The Bluffton Farmers' Market, operated by the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce, opens for the season. The market is located in the Citizens National Bank parking lot. Market hours are the same as last year, 8:30 a.m. to noon.

The market will continue each Saturday morning until the end of October. A vendor's meeting took place in April. At that time 19 vendors from last year registered for the entire season.

Jenny Sumption, Manager of the McDonald’s Restaurant in Ottawa, has won a Ray Kroc Award, an accolade that recognizes the top performing McDonald's restaurant managers globally.

Sumption was one of 340 McDonald’s Managers around the world, representing the top one percent, to receive the honor, which includes a cash prize and a trophy.

Bluffton Relay for Life/Hope will hold its annual garage sale Saturday, May 7, behind the Bluffton Farmers' Market in the school parking lot.

Sale hours are  8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. From 11:30 a.m. to the end of the sale everything is one-half off.

Putnam County Boxing Club hosts the Black Swamp Romp at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 7, at the old Pandora School building, 301 N. Jefferson St.

Walt Lanthrop of Columbus Grove is the Putnam County coach. The event brings many boxing clubs from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, and West Virginia. 

This is a boxing club for youth, both boys and girls. It teaches discipline, athleticism and respect.

 Lanthrop also teaches boxercize, an evening fitness program to help boxers keep in shape. 

Sarah Thompson, executive director of Christian Peacemaker Teams, will address the Bluffton University graduating class during the May 8 ceremony in the Sommer Center. 

Thompson was named the executive director of CPT in Jan. 2014.  She travels extensively for the organization to build partnerships to transform violence and oppression. Thompson has also worked in the international peace movement as a public speaker and community organizer. 

In addition to commencement there are several additional on campus weekend events.

The Blanchard River Watershed Partnership is currently involved in two Riley Creek projects, according to Phil Martin, director.

• The BRWP has two Great Lakes Basin grants in the Allen County portion of Lower Riley Creek and in Middle Riley Creek watersheds this year. Both grants are for Best Management Practices with the farmers. Martin said that there is still funding available and persons with questions should call him

• BRWP will conduct water quality monitoring during late June and September.

This summer's Pandora town wide garage sale registration forms are available at the Pandora library, according to persons sponsoring the event.

Forms need to be turned in by Saturday,  May 28, along with your $10 check to ensure that your name is on the list/map.
