Men's All-HCAC

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Earning First Team All-Heartland Conference honors at the Indoor Heartland Conference Track and Field championships following his victory in the pole vault was junior KYLE KNEZOVICH (Utica). He highlighted a day of both school and personal records as the men placed third while the women took fifth at Rose-Hulman on Saturday, Feb. 18.

Dolores M. Stoodt, 80, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at 8:20 a.m. at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

She was born on July 20, 1936, in LaFayette, Ohio, to John Wesley and Thelma (Kidd) Stoodt.

They preceded her in death.

Dolores retired from First Federal Savings and Loan of Lima where she worked as a teller. She then was the secretary for the West Central Ohio Kidney Foundation.

She was a member of the Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church, LaFayette and a 1954 graduate of LaFayette Jackson High School.

Allen Soil and Water Conservation District program

Allen Soil and Water Conservation District is offering a community gardening forum for gardeners in Lima and the surrounding area from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23 at the American Legion Post 96, 711 South Shore Drive, Lima.  

Anyone who has been gardening or has an interest in gardening is invited to attend.  A meal will be provided followed by a discussion on how local agencies can assist with gardening education and other supporting needs. 

John “Jack” Newton Shoupe, 83, died Feb. 21, 2017, at Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton. Arrangements are pending at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Service, Bluffton.
 

February 2017 weather on a record-setting warm course

February 2017 is headed toward the weather record books.

There’s eight days remaining in the month, and according to Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer, three new record high temperatures are already set.

The new records follow:
Feb. 17 - now 63 was 59 degrees in 2011
Feb. 18 - now 69 was 60 degrees in 1981
Feb. 19 - now 65 was 64 degrees in 1994

Several additional weather-related facts for the first 20 days of February include only a trace of rain was recorded (Feb. 1 and Feb. 15).

It's a $1.4 million interceptor sewer project - replacing a 60+ year old sewer

Here's the answer:

The project involves a $1.4 million village-funded project that replaces a major Bluffton sewer line that is out of date and in need of serious repair.  The project involves nearly one-third of the village’s sewers.

Former Bluffton resident Evan B. Steiner died Feb. 19, 2017, in Florida, where he lived.

He was born on April 28, 1924, in Bluffton, Ohio, to Mary (Balmer) and Soloman Steiner.  On April 5, 1947, he married Betty Kohli; and, this year they would have celebrated 70 years of marriage.

His children are Carol (Tom) Bell, Westerville, Ohio/Hobe Sound, Fla.; Greg (Chris), Hobe Sound, Fla.,/Indian River, Mich.; Bob (Patsy), Hobe Sound, Fla./Highlands, N.C.  

He has eight grand-children, 17 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Results

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Bluffton University men’s track and field team was nothing short of amazing in Saturday’s HCAC Indoor Track & Field Championship hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana. The men came home 3rd in the 10 team field and accomplished that placing with a participating team of 18 with nine of those men scoring points.

We invite direct vendors, hand-made craft vendors, and local small businesses that would like to show off their talents and products during the Saturday, June 10 Harrod Summer Spectacular, according to Brock Ackerman of the festival committee.
