6:35 p.m. meeting for personnel changes

Three special Bluffton council meetings, each held in the town hall, were announced today by Judy Augsburger, mayor:

• Streets and Alleys Committee meeting, Thursday Sept. 14, 5:30 p.m

• Special council meeting for Main Street closure for BHS homecoming parade, Thursday, Sept. 14, 6:30 p.m. (parade is Friday, Sept. 22)

• Special council meeting for personnel changes, Thursday, Sept. 14, 6:35 p.m.

Bluffton High School's homecoming weekend is approaching. One of the activities is a bonfire. Here are the details:

Wednesday, Sept. 20
Parking lot across from Harmon Field stadium
7 p.m. DJ
7:30 p.m. Team announced
8 p.m. Bonfire

Dr. Matthew Friesen, assistant professor of sociology, will present the Colloquium, "’Silver-tongued Bastards’ and ‘Used-Car Salesmen': Veteran Reflections on Military Recruitment,” at 4 p.m. on Sept. 22, in Centennial Hall’s Stutzman Lecture Hall. The presentation is free and open to the public. 

Registration deadline Oct. 20

Fall indoor soccer leagues (Session I) are forming now at Bluffton Family Recreation, according to Amy Byers, sports coordinator.

Session I games are Nov. 5 to Dec. 9, a five-week league with a registration deadline of Oct. 20.

Returning this season after a short hiatus is a U10 league. Its games are Tuesdays at 6, 7 and 8 p.m.

Byers said: "Divisions are filled based on the order that registration forms and fees are received. Divisions may fill before the deadline.

Jessica Reynolds, MD, has joined Surgical Associates of Northwest Ohio, part of Blanchard Valley Health System. Surgical Associates of Northwest Ohio is located at 300 West Wallace Street, Suite B1 in Findlay. Dr. Reynolds will provide general surgery services.

Dr. Reynolds specializes in robotic and minimally invasive procedures for hernias. She also helps with management of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). She performs endoscopic procedures, such as Stretta and minimally invasive procedures, such as LINX for GERD management.

University Alumni Assn. recognition Oct. 7

Exceptional Bluffton University alumni and faculty are honored each year during Homecoming weekend at the President’s Banquet. During the event, alumni and faculty who have reached milestones of achievement, service and giving are recognized.
 
This year, alumni awards will be presented to Dr. Marvin H. Hall, a 1977 graduate who will receive the Professional Achievement Award, and Barbara Stettler, associate professor emerita of family and consumer sciences, who will receive the Faculty/Staff Service Award.
 

Register for an Art Lesson with Janette Reineke, for ages 18 and up. On Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m., Mrs. Reineke will lead a lesson from her latest book, Fear No Art!: featuring a Georgia O’Keefe flower painting. A supply fee of 10 dollars is accepted at the door.

Relating to the State Route 103 corridor project

Choice One Engineering has submitted a $2.3 million application for safety funding money in the on-going State Route 103 corridor safety study, according to Joe Sehlhorst, Bluffton council member.

On Monday night Sehlhorst updated council members of the Sept. 7 discussions that took place in a council streets, lights and alleys committee meeting. Choice One Engineering, Sydney, created a safety study of the 103 corridor for the village.

The Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale is Sept. 20-23 on the lower level of the library. Enjoy a warm cup of goodness and some baked goods as you browse our books and other materials for sale. All of the proceeds of this sale go to support Bluffton Public Library’s programs and services.

Hours are as follows: Wed. the 20th from 5-7:30 p.m.; Thurs. the 21st from 9:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m.; Fri. the 22nd from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Sat. the 23rd from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
