Norma J. Guthrie, 77, died Jan. 14, 2018, at Mercy Health - St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima. Norma was born Nov. 20, 1940, in Cambridge, Ohio, to the late Roy and Eva (Stiles) Shelton.  On Feb. 2, 1958 he married Harold "Gus” Guthrie who survives in Ada.

Paula Scott looking ahead at her first full year as Bluffton chamber director

Paula Scott took a sigh of relief following her first and very successful Blaze of Lights.

At that point, working as an interim chamber director, the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce board offered, and she accepted, being CEO of the nearly 200-member organization.

“The momentum at the chamber is fantastic,” she said, as she looks toward events planned this year by the chamber.

On the calendar are traditional events, including the Arts and Crafts show Saturday, May 12, and the Blaze of Lights (Saturday after Thanksgiving).

At BHS vs. Spencerville basketball game

The Bluffton High School home boys' varsity basketball game on Friday, Jan. 19, between Spencerville and BHS  will be Military Appreciation Night, according to Alex Hanna, BHS athletic director.

All current members of the military, military veterans, spouses, and children of anyone currently deployed will be get free admission.

Emergency Preparedness Tuesday, town hall, 7 p.m.

Transition Bluffton will host a meeting at the Bluffton town hall at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 16.

Randy Augsburger will be speaking on Emergency Preparedness. Augsburger previously spoke at Bluffton Public Library for September’s Emergency Preparedness Month last year. 

Augsburger will be covering how to take practical steps to prepare your family for emergencies, assess your own preparedness, and deal with major and minor disasters that could reasonably happen in northwest Ohio.

Bluffton University Jan. 23 Forum

Dr. Malinda Berry, assistant professor of theology and ethics, Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary, will present the Forum, “In Praise of Being Different: Nonconformity, Integrity, and Being Christian,” at 11 a.m. on Jan. 23 in Yoder Recital Hall.

The Pandora United Methodist Church will be host a free Community Meal on Wednesday, Jan. 31, from  5:30 to 7: p.m. in the church fellowship hall, 108 E. Washington St., Pandora. 

The meal this month is provided by  the 7’oclock Flock. The menu is tomato soup, crackers, grilled cheese sandwich, relish tray, cake, beverage.

And, what to expect in 2018

The year 2017 presented the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) with the opportunity to improve one of the area’s most valuable assets as the reconstruction and widening of Interstate 75 through Findlay and Hancock County began.

The project began in March.

“We accomplished what we hoped to in the first year of the project, even with weather setbacks, which included significant rainfall and flooding of some areas of Findlay and of the Interstate 75 project area,” said Kirk Slusher, ODOT District 1 deputy director.
