AARP volunteers are taking appointments for free income tax assistance this winter at Bluffton Senior Citizens Center, according to Tonya Meyer, center director.

The first day of tax assistance is Thursday, Feb. 1. The assistance will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays through April 12. Assistance takes place at the center, 132 N. Main St., Bluffton, with appointments beginning at 9 a.m. each day.

FINDLAY, Ohio - The Bluffton University track and field team competed Friday and Saturday, January 26-27 in the Findlay Classic and Elite Throws meet. A number of quality results were achieved throughout the two days.

The Bluffton  Lady Pirates built an early lead which they maintained through three quarters before blitzing visiting Riverdale 13-0 to open the fourth quarter.  Junior Alivia Koenig canned six three pointers on her way to 24 points leading Bluffton to a 67-48 Saturday afternoon victory.  Bluffton is now 12-5, Riverdale falls to 9-8. BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women’s basketball team welcomed back alumni as they matched up with the Hanover College Panthers on Jan. 27, 2018. After a second half rally, the Beavers improved to 14-5 on the season (9-3 HCAC). Hanover fell to 12-7 overall (8-4 HCAC).

Two great girls basketball teams collided Thursday evening in Pirate gymnasium when Columbus Grove came to town.  Both the Bulldogs and the Pirates entered the game with just one conference game.  Before a raucous crowd, the teams did not disappoint as the game went into double overtime before being decided.  In the second extra frame, Columbus Grove limited the Pirates to just four points and wore down the BHS guards through fatigue and fouls and pulled away for a 57-52 victory over the Lady Pirates.

"Herbie Fully Loaded" free feature movie

Bluffton Elementary PTO will host a family movie night at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 10, in the middle school cafetorium.

The featured movie "Herbie Fully Loaded," will be shown.

Admission is free. Bring blankets, sleeping bags and camp chairs for your own comfy seating.

Concessions for purchase include popcorn, fruit snacks, suckers, water bottles, juice boxes and hot chocolate.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Jerry Burkholder retires after a life-long relationship with the festival

The 2018 Bluffton Arts & Crafts Festival has an opening for a vendor manager, according to Paula Scott, chamber CEO.

This year's show is Saturday, May 12, in downtown Bluffton.

"The manager will coordinate setup and teardown on the day of the event, direct vendors to their booths, and serve as a chamber contact person.," said Scott. "The manager will also provide feedback for planning 2018 and future festivals."
