Track and Field grinds at Findlay Classic
January 28, 2018
FINDLAY, Ohio - The Bluffton University track and field team competed Friday and Saturday, January 26-27 in the Findlay Classic and Elite Throws meet. A number of quality results were achieved throughout the two days.
In Friday night's pole vault competition, junior Sarah Oliver (Lexington) cleared an indoor PR 10' 2" while freshman Gabe Makin (Elida) placed 3rd in the men's field of 18 equaling his own indoor best of 14' 7.25". Posting qualifiers for the HCAC championship in a pair of exciting and hard fought 800 meter races were senior Alissa Hauke (Hillsboro) with 2:31.06 and sophomore Connor Gulick (St. Louisville/Utica) at 2:02.98. Junior Keturah Warlick (East Point, Mich./Clintondale) clocked 27.73 over 200 meters to ensure her entry in the championship as well.
Improved best performance shows the results of hard work. There was ample evidence of that on display throughout various event groups. On the track freshman transfer Aurora Ward dropped her 60 meter time while sophomores Alexis Cash (Gaines, MI/Lake Fenton) and Arie Cox (Ontario) as well as senior Michelle Kelsey (South Whitley, Ind./Whitko) all ran lifetime bests in the mile with Cox showing marked improvement over 800 meters as well. In field events both sophomore John Jones (Cincinnati/Walnut Hills) and freshman Stephanie Fox (Pickerington/Central) improved at both shot put and weight throw while freshman Amanda Setser (Pickerington/Central) PR'd in shot put..
"We continue our build toward the championship meet the middle of next month," said Head Coach Karen Brandt. "Findlay provides a quality facility and well-run meet at which our team generally does well. I am pleased with our progress but look to the men's sprint squad in particular to have a much-needed breakthrough meet to improve our chances at a solid finish at HCAC."
The Beavers travel to Ohio Northern University for the Joe Banks Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 3.
