What is your current job and how did you obtain it?
Development Manager for the Humane Society of Sarasota County in Sarasota, Florida.

After graduating from Ohio Northern in 2009 and relocating to Florida in 2011, I worked in the for-profit sector, most recently for the American subsidiary of a French ventilation manufacturer.

Blanchard Valley Health System Live and Learn Series

Blanchard Valley Health System will hold its next Live and Learn Series in late March.

The program’s focus is  “Menopause and Your Health.” It takes place from noon to 1 p.m., Thursday, March 29, in Marathon Auditorium of Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay.

Featured speakers are Dr. Miguel Jordan, Dr. Robert Schutz and Dr. Allison Westcott.

Persons interested in attending should RSVP to [email protected] or call 419-423-5551 by Wednesday, March 21. A boxed lunch will be provided.

Memorial service May 11 at Bluffton Presbyterian Church

Dale Dickey, 92, formerly of Bluffton, passed away peacefully at his home in Prior Lake, MN, on February 24.

Preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn (Kerry) Vore Dickey (d. 2013) and daughter, Elizabeth Lacey (d. 2014), Dale was born in Sidney, OH August 1, 1925. He graduated from Sidney High School in 1943, Bluffton College in 1950 (B.A.), Princeton Theological Seminary in 1952 (M.Div.), and Bowling Green State University (Ph.D.) in 1980.

Hear all about it at the ONU Observatory

Icon viewers are invited to the ONU Observatory, Ada, on Friday, March 9, from 8-10 p.m. for a program titled "Stardeath: supernovae and their remnants."

According to Dr. Jason Pinkney,  professor of physics and astronomy and manger of the ONU Observatory, "Stars meet their death in a variety of ways which depends mostly on their mass.  Most massive stars end in spectacular explosions called supernovae.

"Those which occur in our Milky Way galaxy can outshine Venus for a month or more."

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Bluffton University baseball squad took to the field to face off against the Pitt-Bradford Panthers in their only contest of the day. The Beavers (4-2) fell behind and were not able to overcome an early 17-3 deficit as Bradford secured a 21-14 victory.

Photo history book "The Bluffton We Never Knew" featured at Friday's chamber breakfast

Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce takes a step back in time on Friday.

Fred Steiner of the Bluffton Icon will share photos and talk about his newly released photo history book, “The Bluffton We Never Knew.”

The book has nearly 170 photos, mostly taken by pioneer photographer Will Triplett (Ropp Triplett’s grandfather). The photos show Bluffton as it grew up during its first half-century of 1861 to 1911.

Copies of the book will be on sale at the breakfast.

Later this summer in 121 S. Main St., building - former home of Town and County Flowers

Plans are underway for a new business to open at 121 S. Main St., formerly housing Town and Country Flower Shop.

Using the name Timber and Vine, LLC, Betsy and Dan Lee of Bluffton plan to open a business later this summer.

Betsy describes their plans this way: “We are a creative studio where people can come to build on-trend, farmhouse-classic, inspirational pieces of décor for their home, office or cottage.

Accordian, harmonica, dulcimers and piano

Harmonica, dulcimers, piano and accordian music will fill the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center during the the Saturday, March 17, Senior Citizens-Lions Club Founndation pancake and sausage benefit.

Pancake and sausage serving is from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Senior Center, 132 N. Main St.

• 10 a.m. Barb Staher, pianio
• 11 a.m. Marilyn Wymer, accordian

Here's the March 16 Music Booster chicken barbecue performance schedule

Tickets are on sale and the musical performance schedule is set for the Friday, March 16, Bluffton Music Boosters chicken barbecue and shrimp dinner.

Serving is in the Bluffton middle school cafetorium with musical performances in the middle school gymnasium beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Pre-sale tickets are $7.50 After March 11 tickets are $8 and are available in the middle school office until sold out.

The menu includes one-half chicken or seven pieces of shrimp, potato salad, applesauce, dinner roll and drink. Proceeds benefit the Bluffton Music Boosters.
