It's a new year with new events and activities. One of those news opportunities is the chance to give blood. The American Red Cross holds the blood drive of 2017 in Bluffton from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 12.

Ottawa couple parents of the 2017 Bluffton new year's baby

It’s a new year. Meet the first baby born at Bluffton Hospital in 2017.

Here’s Roman Matthew Boninsegna. He’s asleep in the arms of his mother, Melania. Behind mom is Dave, his father. The Boninsegna family is from Ottawa.

Roman was born at 8:48 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 3, with Dr. Desrene Brown, M.D., the attending physician. Roman entered the world at 7 pounds, 14 ounces and measured 19 inches.

He is joined at home by a sister, Carmella, 1, and a brother, Brantley, 2.

Community Vacation Bible School took place at Emmanuel United Church of Christ. Over 120 youths attended. Here’s a view of a game underway.

Jadyn Barhorst is active in several school organizations

Jadyn Barhorst, a senior, is the December Bluffton High School student of the month. She is the daughter of Joe Barhorst, and Rebecca Hasting. Jadyn has a cumulative 3.911 grade point average.

It was a quick timeout, but BHS boys' basketball coach, Todd Boblitt, gets some instructions in. The Pirates won this year's McDonald's Boys' Holiday Tournament. The Pirates are on the road in the first two games of 2017. Two Western Buckeye League opponents entertain Bluffton. On Saturday BHS travels to Ottawa-Glandorf. Next Tuesday BHS travels to Wapakoneta.
