Twenty-five non-traditional students received scholarships totaling $500 each (for students pursing certificate programs) and $1,000 (for degreed programs) this fall from the Lima Rotary Club.
Recipients are pursuing higher education in Sociology, Medical Social Work, Registered Nursing, AS in Nursing, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Elementary Education and AA Human Services.
At least one of the recipients is attending Bluffton University, according to the club.
Mornings with Mommy, educational play-dates begin Monday, Sept. 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jenera.
Offered for infants through preschool age children (ages 0-5 years) and meet other moms, these dates continue on the first and third Mondays and Tuesdays of each month from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church, 301 N. Main St., Jenera.
Charlotte Anderson, died Sept. 8, 2017 at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.
Charlotte was born June 19, 1929, in Findlay, Ohio, to John and Julie (Crates) Walter who preceded her in death. Survivors include: her husband of 66 years, Willis Anderson of Bluffton; three children, Steven (Karen) Anderson of Sunnyside, Washington, Kathy (Larry) Coburn of Phoenix, Arizona, Linda (Mike) Hampl of Louisville, Texas; a sister, Jane Cobert of California; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Lieutenant Colonel Robert M. “Bob” Wells (Ret United States Air Force) died at his home Sept. 2, 2017.
Bob is survived by his wife of 37 years Deborah Wells, his children Cindy Wiktor of New Braunfels, Texas, Cheryl Patterson and her husband, Larry of Dallas Texas, his stepdaughers Bridgette Kifer and her husband Doug of Summerville, Wendy Davis and her husband, David of Summerville, Holly Poe of Beaufort, South Carolina, and his brother, Dan Wells and his wife, Mary Beth of Jackson, Oregon.
Bluffton school board will act on two approval requests for overnight trips on Monday.
Action at the September board meeting includes:
• Oct. 11 through 13 outdoor school for 7th graders at Camp Berry, Arlington
• May 21 through 24 trip to Washington, D.C., for 8th graders
In addition, several contacts, pay advances and assignments are on the agenda. Among those is a certified advancement for Kelly Yarnell from BA to 150 hours.
