The Hancock County Sheriff's Office is conducting increased patrol from July 3 through July 5 thanks to grant funding from the Ohio Traffic Safety Office, according to Sergeant Matt Kinsinger of the patrol.
Deputies will pay particular attention for violations such as driving under the influence, and failure to yield and speeding; all of which are leading actors in fatal crashes. There will be zero tolerance for driving under the influence and seat belt violations.
The sheriff's office recommends these simple tips for a safe Fourth of July:
o Plan a safe way home before the fun begins;
o Before drinking, designate a sober driver;
o If you are impaired, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member;
o If you happen to see a drunk driver on the road don't hesitate to contact law enforcement.
o And remember, "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over." If you know someone who is about to drive or ride while impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangements to be where they are going safely.
