Sidewalk ordinance tabled Monday by council
The new Bluffton sidewalk ordinance is on hold.
Bluffton council tabled the third reading of the ordinance on Monday evening.
In moving to table it, Dave Steiner said, “There is activity in the state house regarding how sidewalks can be financed. We need to work it into the ordinance.”
Council passed the first reading of an 11-page ordinance regulating bed and breakfasts in the village. This ordinance is in place for an anticipated bed and breakfast to be requested on South Main Street.

Estimates were submitted by J&D Snyder Excavating, All Terra and Beaverdam Contracting, with Beaverdam Contracting the lowest at $11,634 for Eastland and $24,165 for Campus View.
Jamie Mehaffie, village administrator, met with Terry Thompson of Republic Services on April 23. The meeting is discuss logistics of the new contract for refuse and recycling that
council approved at the last meeting.
The new contract calls for the use of contractor-supplied carts for garbage (96-gallon) and recycling (65-gallon). The efficient distribution of these carts to residents needs to be discussed.
“Additionally, we will be discussing the best method for providing information to residents concerning the use of the carts, any changes in schedules and recyclables that will be picked up curbside.
In other action, council awarded a contract to Patriot Concrete for $16,400 to replace damaged concrete around the deck of the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool. The project will be finished by the time the pool opens for the season.
