Bluffton University math workshops marking 25th year
Bluffton University will offer six summer mathematics workshops—five of them new this year—for teachers of elementary through high school students.
The 25th annual workshops, hosted by adjunct faculty member Duane Bollenbacher, are all three-day sessions, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. Each workshop may be taken for 22.5 contact hours of Local Professional Development Committee credit, at a cost of $125, or, on a pass/fail basis, for one semester hour of graduate workshop credit, for $275. Lunches are included; other meals and housing are available.
Bollenbacher, a high school math teacher for 30 years, will teach three workshops—“HQT Certification for the Intervention Specialist in Mathematics Content,” the first session, from June 11-13, and the only one repeated from previous years; “Using Unique Non-Routine Problems and Activities to Learn and to Enhance Good High School Mathematics,” from June 18-20; and “Using Statistics of Sports to Integrate Good and Innovative Mathematics into Your Classroom,” from Aug. 6-8.
Also leading new workshops are Marilyn Link, a retired teacher from Coldwater, and the instructor for “Problem-Solving in the Middle School, Course II,” from June 18-20, and “Become a Master Teacher of Grades 3-5 Mathematics,” from June 25-27; and Mandy Robek, a kindergarten teacher in Olentangy Local Schools and the instructor for “K-2 Activities and Problem-Solving as We Unpack the New Standards,” from June 25-27.
Registration deadlines are eight days prior to the first day of each course.
Completion of any two of the six workshops will qualify intervention specialists for Highly Qualified Teacher certification in math content.
