Shannon Cemetery Commission will make recommendations to council on Monday
The Shannon Cemetery Commission will bring a nine-point recommendation to Bluffton council on Monday.
The commission met on Feb. 9 with nine of its 11 members present and voted unanimously on its recommendations. Council must now act on the recommendations.
Among the recommendations are to have funds for the project come from donations, replace gravestones on their “known” graves, and restore and clean all stones.
Stones without a burial location will be placed in a memorial. All names on the stones will be placed on a granite marker. The commission recommends the mayor appoint a three-member board of trustees for the cemetery or use the already established Bluffton Cemetery Board as its trustees.
The entire list of recommendations is in an attachment at the bottom of this story.
In a separate attachment is council’s Monday agenda. Additional Shannon Cemetery information is provided in the attachment.
