How credit cards work, The Bluffton We Never Knew, Mediterranean cook and more
Bluffton Senior Citizens Association announces it winter session of Our Version of Adult Learning (OVAL) classes, according to Tonya Meyer, director.
The following classes are held at the Senior Center, 132 N. Main St., and are free (except Feb. 5 class with a pre-registration and fee) and open to the public.
Thursday, Jan. 11 – 9:30 a.m. – Bob Gordon-Hancock, “How the credit card banking industry works.”
Monday, Jan. 15 - 9:30 a.m. – Fred Steiner will discuss his upcoming book “The Bluffton We Never Knew.” The book includes over 70 photos of Bluffton taken from 1861 to 1911.
Thursday, Jan. 25 – 10 a.m. – Beth Theisen, Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District, “The healing power of nature.”
Monday, Jan. 29 – 10 a.m. – Elmcroft staff members will discuss various health topics. More information coming.
Monday, Feb. 5 – 11 a.m. – Jonah Agner, The Food Store, cooking demonstration on Mediterranean cooking. This class is limited to 35 people and the cost is $3 for members and $4 for non-members.
Friday, Feb. 16 – 12:30 p.m. – Jason Mikell, WLIO TV meteorologist, will talk about changing weather patterns.
Monday, Feb. 19 – 10 a.m. – Amanda Wischmeyer will discuss organic farming, why and how.
• Maple Crest series
Maple Crest of Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio will host a separate series of classes. Fran Core will lead the series titled “How They Do It: A Comparison of Life Cycles Within the Animal Kingdom.”
Classes will continue for eight weeks, held in the Maple Crest Patio Room at 10 a.m., Wednesdays from Jan. 10 to Feb. 28.
Core will use films from David Attenborough in the class. The films explore variations of mating behaviors, parenting and different life forms of animals in their life cycles.
Registration is required and there is an $8 charge for the class. Persons may contact the Senior Center to register by calling 419-358-8971 or stopping at the Center.
