University decisive in volleyball opener
The Bluffton University volleyball team welcomed back fans with a three-set shutout of Kenyon College on Wednesday, Sept. 1. Bluffton was in front of fans for the first time since 2019.
Bluffton took set one by a 25-15 count. Set two was a 25-18 Beaver victory and the capper score was 25-14.
Junior All-HCAC performer Kaylie Campbell (Camden/Preble Shawnee) picked up where she left off in February, hitting .500 with eight kills against one error on 14 swings. Sophomore Alysha Like (McComb) provided eight kills of her own and a .350 hitting percentage.
Freshman Emma George (Versailles) had seven kills in her first collegiate match and Kelly Armentrout (Lima/Shawnee) added six winners for Bluffton.
Junior Maddie White (Ashland) did her part with 26 assists and eight digs. Brooke Kleman (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) had 17 digs and six assists. George and Like were both in on two blocks, while senior Becky Siemer (Liberty Township/Lakota East) and White stuffed the Ladies on point 25 of the clinching set.
Kleman had three aces for the Beavers, with George, who earned the Beaver faithful an iced coffee from McDonald's, and Courtney Weekley (Butler/Clear Fork) both firing a pair of darts.
Bluffton will play at home on Friday, Sept. 3 in match one of the Sommer Center Spiketacular at 5:00 p.m. Heidelberg, Trine and Ohio Wesleyan are all on the menu this weekend when the Beavers play their first five matches in Allen County.
