RICHMOND, Ind.–The Bluffton University men's soccer team traveled to Earlham College on Wednesday, Oct. 12, where they secured a 2-1 victory over the Quakers.
The Beavers improved to 5-5-3 overall (3-2 HCAC) while Earlham dropped to 3-8-1 (1-4 HCAC).
It was a quiet first 45 minutes as the game went into the intermission tied 0-0. Earlham cracked the scoreboard first with a 1-0 lead in minute 69. Just over a minute later, Bluffton's Elijah Zimmerman (Archbold) netted the equalizer on a penalty kick, tying it up 1-1. Dalton Taynor (Troy/Miami East) would secure the 2-1 victory for the visitors when he connected with the back of the net for his team-high eighth tally of the season, assisted by Maxwell Kennedy (Strongsville) with 15 minutes to play.
Bluffton goalkeeper Angel Velasco-Urbina (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) picked up his fifth win of the season with six saves compared to three for the Quakers. Zimmerman powered the offense with four shots, two on frame. Jackson Clark (Mount Blanchard/Riverdale) tallied three shots in the victory.
Both teams took 15 shots total, however, Bluffton put four more on goal (7-3). The Beavers also forced two more corner kicks (6-4) and were whistled for three fewer fouls (9-6).
The men are back in action on Sunday, Oct. 16, when they welcome Rose-Hulman to the Sears Athletic Complex for a Senior Day and Homecoming weekend matchup with the Engineers. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. following the women's contest. Go Beavers!
