Community Foundation awards $915K in grants

FINDLAY—The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation Board of Trustees approved grants totaling $915,189 at the May board meeting. This total includes 17 responsive grants and 41 donor advised fund grants.

“These grants represent the investment of generous local philanthropists in the community,” said Brian Treece, President & CEO of the Foundation. “We’re proud to partner with these donors to award these grants and improve the quality of life for all in Hancock County.”

Responsive Grants

Responsive grants are awarded to organizations to meet community needs and match the goals, objectives and priorities of The Community Foundation. Grantseekers must submit a written grant proposal for consideration. Applications are reviewed four times per year.

Funding for responsive grants comes from our Community’s Endowment, made up of Funds for the Common Good and Field of Interest Funds established by donors at The Community Foundation. The following responsive grants were approved by the Board of Trustees, made possible by our Community’s Endowment:

  • Children’s Museum was awarded $10,500 for a free play day as part of the Fun for All series of free community events.
  • Focus Recovery and Wellness Community was awarded $6,750 for a strategic planning process.
  • Hancock County ADAMHS Board was awarded up to $5,000 for grant writing support for a low barrier shelter.
  • Hancock Properties Foundation was awarded $83,600 for capital projects.
  • Hancock Public Health was awarded two grants:
    • $9,900 to support a medical compliant translation service and equipment pilot project.
    • $125,000 to leverage support for a community health worker.
  • Kan Du was awarded $4,000 for AED equipment.
  • Kiwanis Foundation of Findlay was awarded $15,000 to expand the Kiwanis Closet program to area middle schools.
  • Marathon Center for the Performing Arts received two grants for the Fun for All series events:
    • $7,000 supporting a free Live @ Armes show in June.
    • $12,000 supporting a free performance of PuppyPals for residents in August.
  • Northwest Ohio Railroad Preservation, Inc. was awarded $17,500 for accessibility improvement projects at the NWORRP complex.
  • Open Arms Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services was awarded a $25,000 matching grant for a mobile unit for rural services.
  • Rieck Center for Habitat Studies was awarded $1,750 for a Story Trail in partnership with the Mazza Museum.
  • Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio was awarded $30,000 to support medical housing for Hancock County residents.
  • United Way of Hancock County was awarded $4,650 for the Community Gardens at The Family Center.
  • University of Findlay’s Mazza Museum was awarded $863 for free books (Bryson the Brave Bison) for the Ohio Illustrator Event in June.
  • Village of McComb was awarded $6,900 for architectural drawings for a new childcare facility.

Donor Advised Grants

Donor Advised funds are established by individuals, families or corporations to recommend grants to nonprofits they’re passionate about. The nonprofits are vetted by the Foundation and grants are awarded. The following donor advised grants were awarded:

  • 55 grants to 41 organizations totaling $550,676.
