Homecoming celebrated at Harmon Field

BLUFFTON – The Bluffton High School football team out-gunned visiting Crestview and standout running back Braxton Leeth 49-34 in a Northwest Conference battle on Homecoming Friday, October 2.

The high-octane win lifted the Pirates into a third-place tie with the Knights in the league standings at 3-1. Bluffton also improved to 6-1 overall.

Crestview fell to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the NWC after the defeat.

Dear Putnam County Residents,

As your local school superintendents, we write to you not as politicians or advocates, but as fellow parents, community members, and stewards of the education system that defines the heart of Putnam County. We share your frustration with rising property taxes.

Robert H. Verb presents The James Webb Space Telescope (R) on Thu., Oct. 23 @ 6:00 p.m. at Bluffton Public Library. Verb, retired U.S. army officer and engineer, will discuss his involvement in the creation of NASA's largest and most powerful telescope: the James Webb Space Telescope. The presentation will include pictures as well as pieces and mineral samples for the audience to look at. There will be time for questions and discussion with the audience. Open to all ages; children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Register in person or online.

CELINA – The Bluffton High School soccer team lost 2-1 at tough non-league foe Celina on Saturday, October 4.

The Pirates led 1-0 at halftime but succumbed to two second half goals by the host Bulldogs.

Bluffton dropped to 4-9-3 overall with the close defeat. Western Buckeye League leader Celina improved to 9-3-3 after the win. 

Bluffton is 2-4-3 on the road and 2-5 at home this season.

The Pirates host Putnam County League power Kalida (9-2-4) in the regular season finale on Thursday, Oct. 9.

 

Nelson Welch,78, of Rawson, passed away on October 4, 2025. Nelson was born on December 6, 1946 at McComb Hospital in McComb, Ohio to the late Mearl and Ellen (Campbell) Welch.

He graduated from Cory-Rawson High School in 1965. As a young man he worked as a surveyor at Peterman & Associates, Findlay, United Aircraft Products, Forest and retired as a QC technician out of Rockwell International, Kenton.
