"The Help" June 9 book discussion at Common Grounds

Bluffton Public Library will host a discussion of Kathryn Stockett's book "The Help" at Common Grounds Coffeehouse and Caf'e on Wednesday, June 9, at 10 a.m. Copies of the book are available at the library. Senior center offers crochet class in June

The Bluffton Senior Center will offer a Beginner Crochet Class in June. The class will offer a brief history of crocheting, learn five basic stitches and how to read a pattern.

The class will be Tuesday, June 15 and June 22 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The cost is $5 for Senior Center members, $7 for non-members and children under the age of 14 are free with a paying adult.

Crochet hooks and yarn will be provided at the first class. Reservations can be made by calling 419-358-8971 or stop by the Bluffton Senior Center during regular business hours.

Perfect attendance pays off at Apollo

Apollo Career Center will award a new car to one lucky student with perfect attendance., Monday, May 24, at 9:40 a.m., in the Apollo Commons. A reverse drawing of sorts, at the end two students will each be handed a set of keys. One set will start the car, and the runner-up receives a brand new Gateway computer.

Many businesses donated a variety of prizes to this year's perfect attendees and as each student's name is pulled from the basket that student will be awarded gas cards, pizzas, subs, etc. Forty-seven students are entered in this year's contest

Crafts, food, llamas, music, art all downtown Saturday

Over 60 craft vendors will sell their wares on Main Street Saturday, May 22, for the 39th annual Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce arts and crafts fair.

Because of the larger than usual number of crafters, several booths will be set up on South Main Street from Citizens National Bank to the farmer's market. In addition, crafters will fill the street from the corner of Cherry and Main all the way to the town hall.

American Legion chicken BBQ on May 31

The Bluffton American Legion Post 382 will hold its traditional chicken barbecue on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31. Serving will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Citizens National Bank parking lot on Main Street. Tickets are $7 each and dinners include one-half chicken, baked potato and green beans and roll. The barbecue will be from Harlan's of Pandora. Tickets are on sale now from legion members.

3 superiors, 5 excellents at state science fair

Eight Bluffton Middle School students participated in the State Science Fair on May 8, according to Dave Bracy, science teacher.

"The students did a great job with three students receiving a superior rating and five students received an excellent rating," said Bracy.
