Those puppeteers we visited recently at the Bluffton Child Development Center now have painted faces.

The Icon stopped into visit the morning Kindergarten class at BCDC last week for an artistic update.

We found Daphne Johnston with her sparkly cat, Drew Frideger with his one-eyed creature, Gracie Warren with her cat with no name and Sam Hartzler with Mario.

What's your favorite soup?

Henry’s, Ottawa, providing baked potato soup, won this year’s Maple Crest Senior Living Village of Bluffton, soup cook-off.

Second place was Luke’s Bar and Grill, Bluffton, with tomato basil Parmesan bisque soup. Third place was Apollo Career Center, Lima, with cream cheese chicken chili soup.

Others soup entries were from Bluffton Hospital, Common Grounds of Bluffton, Touches from the Heart of Ottawa, and W.g. Grinders of Lima.

Over 150 persons attended and cast ballots for their favorite soup.

Who will it be?

The Bluffton Lions Club seeks nominees for the 2014 citizen of the year.

The award was established in 1981. It honors a person, couple or someone representing a group who has selflessly given time, effort and talent for the benefit of those in the Bluffton area and whose dedication and achievements have profoundly improved the quality of life of the people of the area.

The nominee may be living or deceased (within the last year). The winner will be honored at a banquet on Tuesday, April 21.

As a life-long resident of the Findlay/Bluffton area, to Florence Hunter "long" now has a special meaning. On Feb. 17 she celebrated her 99th birthday making her the eldest resident at Richland Manor, Bluffton. Members of her five-generation family, from as far away as Racine, Wis., helped her celebrate.

ArtSpace/Lima, downtown Lima, will host the 27th Annual Kewpee High School Art Invitational from Feb. 27 to April 11. The exhibition, which will feature cash awards, includes works in various categories, including sculpture, photography, painting, digital media, printmaking, mixed media, sculpture, jewelry, and drawing.

The Kewpee Exhibit is sponsored by Kewpee Restaurants of Lima, Ohio.

Artists from 21 area high schools including Bluffton will be exhibiting their work.  A total of 104 pieces will be in the exhibit.

Your supper plans for Thursday are already set. The soup is on.

Maple Crest Senior Living Village, Bluffton, hosts a soup cook-off on Thursday, Feb. 19, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and the public is invited.

The event is in the Patio room in the lower level of the Maple Crest main building. there everyone can sample gourmet soups prepared by various local restaurants and caterers.
