Dorothy Moser, Evelyn Reese, Glennys Henry and Jane Wright will be recognized at the Monday, Feb. 9, Bluffton Senior Citizens monthly potluck lunch.

The event is at noon at the Center. These members turned 90 in January or February (there was no January meeting). Each will be recognized with a Life membership in the Center.

Jane Sycks, Bluffton High School graduate, and student at Capital University, Columbus, will present her junior trumpet recital at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14.

The recital takes place in Huntington Recital Hall, Bexley Hall (Conservatory of Music) on the campus of Capital University. The recital is free and open to the public.

Nicole Thomas, flute player attending Capital, will also be part of the recital.

Who will it be?

The Bluffton Lions Club seeks nominees for the 2014 citizen of the year.

The award was established in 1981. It honors a person, couple or someone representing a group who has selflessly given time, effort and talent for the benefit of those in the Bluffton area and whose dedication and achievements have profoundly improved the quality of life of the people of the area.

The nominee may be living or deceased (within the last year). The winner will be honored at a banquet on Tuesday, April 21.

Compared to 2013-2014 and contrary to what the Farmer's Almanac predicted, Ohio has experienced a pleasantly "mild" winter so far. Sadly, for snow lovers, the most recent prediction of 8-12 inches of snow for January 31-February 1 fell somewhat short. There was enough for sledding and cross-country skiing and we ended up with more than New York City's expected "biggest blizzard in history" and far less than Boston's 24 inches.

On Jan. 22 Bluffton University hosted a mathematics seminar unlike any you’ve ever been to.

Tyler Oberly, Manager of Analytics for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, addressed an eager audience with a speech titled “Sports Analytics: Diving into the math behind athletics.”

The seminar, which was open to all, focused on the emerging industry of sports analytics, and Oberly’s journey to his current position.
