The Bluffton HS String Chamber Ensemble received an Excellent (II) rating at OMEA State Orchestra Adjudicated Event held at Bowling Green Middle School on, Feb. 28.

Performance selections included: "Postcards from Russia," "Korean Folk Variants," and "Elementals." The ensemble is under the direction of Rachael E. Lewis, assisted by Deb Herr.

Steve Johnson of Ada is ready to make your St. Patrick’s Day celebration one to remember.

He is scheduling appearances for the St. Patrick’s weekend – this year’s St. P. Day falls on Monday, March 17 – and will perform on the bagpipes.

Johnson has been bagpipping for about four years.

“I started out as a drummer of the bagpipe band at the University of Notre Dame,” he told The Icon. “Then, later I became a piper for the band.”

Matt McCoy remembers his prospective student experience at Bluffton University well.

“I remember that there was a giant snowstorm,” the junior accounting major said.

However, what made the best impression on him had nothing to do with the snow storm.
“The admissions people were really understanding and willing to show me anything I wanted to see, even in the snow storm, which was cool,” the Archbold native said.

Bluffton middle school teacher, Dina Tadena, was recently named the Northwest Region Teacher of the Year at the Ohio Middle Level Association (OMLA) state conference, according to Kyle Leatherman, middle school principal.

She teaches sixth and seventh grade math at the Bluffton Middle School.

Six Ohio regions awarded teachers based on performances both in and out of the classroom. Jay Clark, Van Buren Middle School principal and OMLA board member, presented her with the award.

Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio (MHCO), Bluffton, celebrated the end of a 10-month renovation project at the Mennonite Memorial Home campus’s main building with a ribbon cutting and open house on Feb. 23.

Nearly 100 people gathered to celebrate the opening of the Transition to Home Rehabilitation Center that the $1 million project provided.  The new Transition to Home program will focus on patients with short-term rehabilitative needs.
