BVH Auxiliary Presents Check to Hospital

The Blanchard Valley Hospital Auxiliary held its annual volunteer recognition banquet April 27.

At the banquet, the Auxiliary presented a check for $220,000 to Blanchard Valley Hospital leadership. The donation will be used to purchase a second UV-C Cleaning Robot. In addition to the second robot, the gift will also be used toward the purchase of a sponge detection system.

Meanwhile, area bean lover demonstrate impressive patience

It’s testing Bluffton coffee lovers’ cravings for the bean. But, there’s good news on the horizon.

The new owners of that coffee shop at the corner of Main and Cherry are working fast and furious for a reopening of the former Common Grounds.

The Icon reported on May 1 that Phil and Sharon Zimmerly sold the coffee shop to Jessi Davis, Luke Davis and Sam Erter.

Several things transpired since the sale.

First, the shop is closed during a remodeling.

Ever hear of a Sand Wand?

It enables clean up of sediment in streams. The village and Blanchard River Watershed Partnership (BRWP) will hold a demonstration of the sand wand in early June in Bluffton.

The demo is from 1 to 4 p.m., Friday, June 2, at the fork in the Riley – where the Little Riley meets the Big Riley. If you don't know where the "fork is, it's  along Riley Street near the bridge on the west side of Spring Street.

The public is invited to bring waders and try out the sand wand.

Guardians of the Galaxy, Volume 2, comes to the Shannon Theatre for a Friday, May 5, 12:01 a.m. premier.

That means fans will start lining up on Main Street sometime on Thursday, May 4.

According to Pete Suter of the theatre, tickets sales for the midnight show will go on sale at 11 p.m. on Thursday.
