Imagine this - a summer month with the normally expected amount of rainfall. 

That was August 2015. The normal August rainfall is 3.28 inches. This year's August rainfall totaled 2.88 inches.

The average temperature was 70.6 degrees; the normal average is 71.1.

The high temperature of the month  was 87 degrees on Aug. 2 and Aug. 31. The low was 52 degrees on Aug. 28.

Lions Way Trailhead Park will be dedicated at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 16, according to Richard Ramseyer, chair of the Bluffton Pathway Board and president of the Bluffton Lions Foundation.

The event takes place at the trailhead picnic shelter near Comfort Inn on Commerce Lane and will include a ribbon cutting.

The Trailhead park project involves construction of a picnic shelter with concrete pad and wheel chair assessable ramp, picnic tables, identification signs, bike stand on concrete pad, drinking fountain, plantings and landscaping.

Time to roast Gary.

The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce will honor Gary Kirtland, a Bluffton Main Street businessman for nearly a half-century, during the 7 a.m., Friday, Sept. 11, chamber breakfast, in the Bluffton town hall.

This is the first chamber meeting of the 2015-16 seasons. The breakfast program is a roast of Kirtland, who operated Kirtland’s Auto Sales on Main Street Bluffton until his retirement earlier this year.

Lewis Family McDonald’s is looking to hire at several of its restaurants on Wednesday, Sept. 9. While this is certainly not the first hiring day the group has held, this event is focused on leveraging the new local McDonald’s website, www.MyLocalMcDs.com.

“Cyber Hiring Day has been designed to hire the best customer service oriented individuals that the community has to offer. The new MyLocalMcDs.com makes it easy to learn about our benefits and to apply online,” said local owner/operator Jessica Hall.

School is back in session and routines change.

The first day of school for no matter what grade is a rite of passage experienced in Bluffton for  decades.

The Icon witnessed some sixth graders mistakenly trying to enter the elementary door - and then they realized their error.

At least one dog came to school, countless photos were snapped and most students arrived in well-thought-out first-day wardrobes.

Students arrived on foot, by car, bicycle, bus, skateboard and truck. 

L&S Farms, Pandora, received recognition from Beck's Hybrids at a district STAR dealership dinner. L&S, which includes Tim Schumacher, Josh Schumacher and Jeff Lugibihl, was recognized for their recommentation to number soybeans, a process now used company wide.

Beck's has been family owned and operated since 1937, and is the largest family-owned, retail see company in the United States.
