Bluffton's favorite Saturday morning spring and summer pasttime returns on Saturday.

The Bluffton Farmers' Market, operated by the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce, opens for the season. The market is located in the Citizens National Bank parking lot. Market hours are the same as last year, 8:30 a.m. to noon.

The market will continue each Saturday morning until the end of October. A vendor's meeting took place in April. At that time 19 vendors from last year registered for the entire season.

The Blanchard River Watershed Partnership is currently involved in two Riley Creek projects, according to Phil Martin, director.

• The BRWP has two Great Lakes Basin grants in the Allen County portion of Lower Riley Creek and in Middle Riley Creek watersheds this year. Both grants are for Best Management Practices with the farmers. Martin said that there is still funding available and persons with questions should call him

• BRWP will conduct water quality monitoring during late June and September.

 Bluffton Child Development Center has openings in the summer school-age program, according to Francine Donathan, director.

The Bluffton Sportmen's Club has Sunday's tagged trout number 1 named after the Bluffton Slaw Cutter Company.

The slaw cutter company, now in its 101th year, is owned by by Bob Sehlhorst.

This year’s trout derby, the 72nd annual, is held from 2-4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at the Buckeye Quarry, Main St., Bluffton.

Don't forget the chicken barbecue held at the Sportmen's clubhouse in the depot on Spring Street. Dinners at $8 each and are on sale while supplies last starting at 11 a.m.

The Bluffton Community Preschool is hiring an assistant teacher, according to Shelly Matijevich, director.

"We're looking for a reliable individual who can adapt to a changing working environment, is friendly, take directions, child oriented and able to work flexible hours," said Matijevich.

Resumes must be submitted to the Bluffton Community Preschool by Monday, May 9. The preschool is located at First United Methodist Church, 116 Church St., Bluffton.

The newsletter for the Gardeners of Bluffton and Pandora is now on the Icon.

The club's next meeting is at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 3, at the Bluffton Public Library. Bill Jones, Hancock County master gardener, will speak on phenology gardening, which shows how the climate and its changes affect plants and animals in our area.

The meeting is open to the public.
