OSU Cotton Bowl game changes starting time for Blufton holiday tourney

The Bluffton McDonald's boys' holiday basketball tournament has a schedule change, according to Alex Hanna, BHS athletic director.

"Since Ohio State will be playing in the Cotton Bowl on Friday, Dec. 29, at 8:30 p.m. We will adjust the start time for the Dec. 29 games of our holiday tournament to 5 p.m.," he told the Icon.

On Friday, Dec. 29 start time of the first game (Miller City vs.Arlington) will be 5 p.m., and the second game (Bluffton vs. Cory-Rawson) at approximately 6:30 pm. That should wrap up both games before the 8:30 p.m. Ohio State/USC kick off.

Girls' bball: Pirates bury Ada 61-26

Bluffton’s full court pressure fueled two huge first half runs enabling the Pirates to coast to a 61-26 victory in the opening Northwest Conference game for both teams.  BHS scored 11 straight points in the first quarter to take a 13-2 lead and followed it up with an 18-0 burst early in the second quarter to push the lead out to 36-12.  Bluffton’s press defense forced 13 first half turnovers as BHS went to the locker room with a 36-15 advantage.

(FORT JENNINGS) - Alivia Koenig scored a season high 21 points and the Bluffton Lady Pirates won a Saturday matinee contest 55-33 in Putnam County.  The win moves BHS to 3-1 on the season.  

Koenig drilled five 3s and Bluffton connected on 8 shots from down town. Scoring wise, Katie Prater added balance with 11, Libby Schaadt 8 and Averey Rumer 7. Brinkley Garmatter scored 5 and Laykin Garmatter 3.

From www.BlufftonPirates.com - Deandre Nassar 5-0 at Findlay Invite

Bluffton’s wrestling team went 1-4 as a team in the Findlay Duals to open the 2017-18 season.  The Pirates defeated Bath 36-29 in a team win.  BHS dropped matches to Sandusky, Findlay, Oak Hills and Fremont Ross, all schools in large school OHSAA divisions.  

Deandre Nassar (220) got his season off to a strong start with a 5-0 day.  The junior won one match by pin and had two close wins by 3-2 and 4-2 scores.

Kaleb Jefferson leads BHS over Leipsic with 16 points

FROM BLUFFTONPIRATES.COM - For three quarters the Bluffton Boys Basketball team had tough sledding on offense, getting decent looks but shots would not fall.  In the fourth, BHS started converting and came back for a thrilling 41-37 victory over Leipsic to open the 2017-18 season. Kaleb Jefferson led Bluffton with 16 points.

Bluffton’s boys basketball team opens the 2017-18 campaign Friday evening with a home contest against Leipsic.  The Pirates will look to continue their momentum after making the District Tournament the past two seasons. BHS finished with a 13-12 record last year including a 4-4 mark in NWC play.
