Bluffton dropped to 3-5 with the defeat • Wapak improved to  8-2 after the win.

WAPAKONETA - Wapakoneta pulled away from visiting Bluffton with a big fourth period to post a 55-44 non-league boys basketball victory Tuesday night.

The Pirates trailed by just two points heading into the final stanza. But the Redskins outscored Bluffton 20-11 down the stretch to win by 11.

Wapakoneta hit eight of 11 free throws in the fourth period as Zach Rogers scored nine of his 13 points. Redskin Noah Ambos added seven of his 15 markers in the decisive last quarter.

BLUFFTON - The Pirate varsity wrestling squad hosted the six-team Bluffton Duals Tournament Saturday.

Celina, St. Marys and Columbus Grove posted identical records of 4-1 in the event. 

St. Marys was declared the tournament winner after the tie-breaker. The Roughriders lost by only one point to Grove, and beat Celina by 15.

Bluffton registered a 1-4 record in the dual meet competition as they defeated Kenton for their lone win.

Trevor Hisey of St. Marys was named the Most Valuable Wrestler of the tournament. 

Sami Scoles was the only Pirate in double figures with 10 points

ELIDA - The visiting Bluffton girls basketball team lost to Elida 46-30 in a low-scoring non-league contest Saturday afternoon at the Bulldog Fieldhouse.

The Lady Pirates fell behind 24-10 at halftime after they mustered just three second-period points.

Bluffton heated up enough to register a 14-14 third period, and was only outscored 22-20 after intermission. 

But the Pirate girls were not able to eat into the Lady Bulldog lead. 

O-G escapes another close-call to BHS in the non-conference battle

OTTAWA - After a hot-shooting first period, the visiting Bluffton boys basketball team cooled off and lost at perennial power Ottawa-Glandorf 63-50 Saturday night in a non-league bout.

The Pirates led by seven early as they hit four of nine three-point tries en route to a 21-16 lead after the opening stanza. Trenton Donley nailed three trifectas to pour in 11 first-quarter points.

However, O-G limited Bluffton to just four second-period points. Bluffton trailed 27-25 at halftime as Carson Soper scored 11 points by intermission.

The Bluffton and Ada Icons will post a 2021 national championship college football contest on Tuesday. There will be one Bluffton Icon winner and one Ada Icon winner.
