The Ohio High School Athletic Association informed member schools Monday, April 20, that spring sports are now cancelled, as Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced earlier in the day that school facilities will remain closed for the remainder of the academic year due to the coronavirus COVID-19.

OHSAA Executive Director Jerry Snodgrass sent the memo to school administrators following Governor DeWine’s press conference.

At Bluffton HS he was NWC track athlete of the year and was state meet champ

Bluffton High School track and field standout Trevor Bassitt now of Ashland University was named the National Men’s Track Athlete of the Year for the 2020 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

This is the second time in the past three years and the fourth time overall that an athlete from Ashland has earned this honor (Myles Pringle, 2018; Drew Windle, 2013-2014).

Mandated No-Contact period extended through May 1

News from the Ohio High School Athletic Association indicates that it is possible that spring high school sports may extend into June and July. Here is a news release from OHSAA concerning spring sports as it stands today, April 2.

Tournaments of wrestling, basketball and ice hockey will not be completed

The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced Thursday that the winter sports tournaments of wrestling, basketball and ice hockey, which were postponed indefinitely on March 12, are now cancelled due to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.

It is anticipated that schools will not be able to reopen for many weeks, which prevents interscholastic athletics from taking place.

The start of the OHSAA’s spring sports of softball, lacrosse, baseball, track and field and boys tennis is still postponed, which coincides with schools not being open.
